My Tail of Devotion for Maggie (Sis' dog)

Dear Maggie;

I couldn't help but fall in love with your lovable eyes and face as soon as we met. Mommy & Daddy were bringing you home from the shelter, and they stopped by Memere's house to show you off. Do you remember that? You were so tiny then.

I like to think that I helped to pick you out. I knew that your daddy had his heart set on having a lab puppy, and when I found out that the shelter had a litter of 8 week old labs coming in, I had to call him right away and give him the good news. The two of you make quite a team!

You're so good at giving kisses all over... sometimes I'm not sure if its your best trait or most annoying. You just get so excited to see all your people, and you know who each of us are. It cracks me up that every time I come to visit, you give me your best welcome, then sit at the door, waiting for the rest of the family to come through the door, since we all usually come over at once! I think your favorite word is "Memere". As soon as you hear her name, you race around looking for her; you save your most joyous welcomes for her; and you'd do anything to sit in her lap when she comes to visit. You also love visiting her house. Now that Ivan lives there, I hope you can make friends with him.

You are so silly, too, when it comes to playing outside. We're all waiting until the day you find a stick that's too large for you to haul out of the brush and drop at someone's feet, hoping that he or she will throw it and you can fetch it. You've gotta stay with the smaller sticks so you can carry them in your mouth! You really had all of us doubled over when you wouldn't let Daddy and Uncle Tony put the larger sticks in the bon fire over Labor Day weekend! You kept pulling them out of the pile and dragging them to "your" pile on the other side of the yard. Uncle Tony had great fun running after your pile and taking them back.

Daddy says you have me trained; every time I come over to visit, I have to feed you ice cubes. You beg and give paw for them so well; how could I possibly resist those pleading eyes? I don't blame you, though. Ice cubes are so cool for chewing and sucking on!

You've grown up so fast, and yet, you're still such a puppy. You've got enough energy for 5 dogs. Be careful; Megan's still getting used to her feet. That powerful tail of yours doesn't mean to wipe her out, but its just got so much energy... don't worry; she loves you to pieces! You are such a good girl, though, because you leave her toys alone. I know her babies are very tempting, and yet you leave them alone. It's so funny to see her clean up the stuffing you remove from your own dollies!

I can't wait till we can play together again!

Love,
Auntie
