Best Tricks: up, stay, kiss, "bang!", high-five, roll-over, back, following sign language, shake, down-stay, heal, hugs, "call of the wild", putting my toys back in the basket, hide-and-find the duck . . . or stick
Arrival Story: After lots of research, my husband and I decided to attend a Vizsla rescue to talk to other guardians. We discovered the breed would match our active lifestyle, met some wonderful Vizsla folk, and fell absolutely in love with the dogs. Especially a rescue dog named Shamus. We drove to Sebastapol twice to see a litter, and on the 3rd visit we made the pick . . . Barley came home with us! He has been an excellent hiking, fishing, camping, and couch companion ever since!
Forums Motto: living the dream!

He is growing soooo fast. We love to wrestle and play together. Pretty soon he is going to be able to keep up with me on our hikes! And I hear he loves the waves at the beach. Hmmmm, may have to plan a trip to the beach with him soon. I love digging BIG holes and rolling in them.
This weekend we drove deep into the woods, far far away, to find the elusive blue-belly lizzard. My humans, silly people, spent a lot of time trying to catch them with rods and flies. Guess they didn't get the memo, the blue-bellies don't live in rivers! Of course I needed to find out for myself whether or not they do have blue bellies. So I chased them round and round the trough and cabin, finally cornering one! I looked, but couldn't see his belly. Finally, my human came over to pick the lizzard up with her opposable thumbs. Low and behold, the belly is blue!!! The lizzard was pretending that it was asleep so we would leave it alone, but I was having fun with it. I had to try balancing it on my nose. Then my human gently put it on a warm rock and it quickly scurried away! After all that time trying to find it, she let it go!!! Silly human. I spent the next hour trying to find him again, but no such luck. Sigh.
Last Friday my folks were really busy running around the house and packing things up into bags and coolers. I knew they were going to go bye-bye and this put me in a bit of a panic. Who would be watching me? Would I have to stay inside by myself? But then I saw that they were putting everything in the BIG TRUCK!!! That could only mean one thing . . . I was going camping!!!
Then they told me to "load up" which means I get to sit in the front seat like the prince I am. I knew I had to build up my energy for the new adventures we were going to have so I tried to take a nap. But mom kept saying "wah wah tree wah wah wah walk wah wah food" and playing with my ears. She wouldn't let me sleep!
We finally arrived to our destination and low and behold, there was a new buddy! I couldn't contain my excitement and immediately ran up to meet Oscar. He's way cool, a German Shorthair, LOTS of energy to keep up with me. He had a red coat and bling-bling just like me too. We had fun chasing pine cones together. And not too much later, my buds Divet, Bogie, and Shoopie arrived! How did they know where I would be? We all played in the water, fetching sticks and chasing ducks. I love it when my parents plan a whole weekend around me! And it only got better! There were lots of little humans, which means lots of scraps! Just a matter of time before I would get a little tidbit. I just don't understand why mom and dad don't put Pringles and M&Ms in my food regularly.
But now we are back at the big dog house and I'm very pooped. So I'm signing off for now.
