   Leave a bone for Abby

Abbadabbadoo, Ratdog, Abbygirl, Abbs, Dabs, Abbadabbs, Tenacious T (terrier), GHT (ground hog terrier)

Doggie Dynamics:
not playfulvery playful

Quick Bio:
-purebred-pound dog-dog rescue

Licking faces (if you're lucky she just get's your face, she's going for your mouth!), looking for/longing to chase squirrels, digging for moles, chasing our 3 cats, playing with her "brother" Jackson, tunneling under the covers at bedtime

Squirrels, squirrels, SQUIRRELS!!! and that damned vacuum cleaner... did I mention squirrels?

Favorite Toy:
Her brother Jack is her very favorite thing to play with, other than that she always has a bone (or two or ten) going.

Favorite Food:
Pupparoni & Beggin' Strips

Favorite Walk:
She LOVES to look for moles and squirrels in the woods behind our house. And by the way, her desire for woodland creatures is not limited to squirrels & moles. She once threw down with a very fierce ground hog (hence her nickname, "GHT" :-)

Best Tricks:
She can jump about 5+ ft. straight up in the air from a sitting position (she's a "boingity boingity dog"), she has a "stealth" tongue and can get you right in the mouth when you least expect it

Arrival Story:
My friend e-mailed me profile on We called about her and they said there was a family on their way to see her and another terrier as we spoke. It was about a 40 minute drive to the shelter and the boys were in school so I said I'd call back later... if it were meant to be, it were meant to be. I called back a couple of hours later and the woman said "they took the other dog." So, we hopped in the van and went to see her. Her name was "Nitro" (which actually is quite indicative of her energy level) and she was found with a belly full of puppies (6 to be exact.) She had just been spayed, her scar was very fresh... she was soooo spastic (I swear she was saying "pick me! pick me! pick me!" jumping up and down, covering the boys with kisses. ) I can't help wondering her being scarred and so spastic might have turned the other family off (I will admit I had some trepidations at that point as she was a little overwhelming.) BUT, there was something about her that told us she was it... I asked my older son what he thought and he indicated that yes, of course, we needed to take her home so we did just that.

Abby is REALLY high energy and soooooo smart. She is not a very cuddly dog, except when it comes to her daddy and then she's ALL about the snuggles. She also really loves to tunnel down under our covers at night, right by our feet. When it's bedtime you don't have to tell her twice! She is a true terrier (terror) in every sense of the word but I think that's what we love most about her (she livens things up a bit around here :-) We just recently we added another member of our family, a "brother" (Jackson) for her to play with. He is a wonderful little dog and they have become great friends. She has calmed down considerably now that she has someone (I believe) that she can communicate with. Jackson is much more willing to play with her than our three cats are (and the cats are happy he's here as it gets the tenacious terrier off their backs a bit.)
