 Quick Bio:
 Likes: Cicadas!

Pet-Peeves: Vacuum cleaners, lawnmowers, fireworks and thunderstorms

Favorite Toy: Big Ball and Christmas mittens

Favorite Food: Cicadas!

Favorite Walk: Walk?! Did someone say walk?! I love to walk - anywhere, anytime. Got a leash? Let's go!

Best Tricks: Sit, shake and down. She has become quite expert at playing "Big Ball" in the back yard.

Arrival Story: Our daughter gave us a gift certificate to the SPCA for Christmas. We went looking a few times for the perfect dog then one day we couldn't wait any longer and chose this spunky little husky/lab mix named Dakota and renamed her Jazzy. She has grown into a good, loyal companion who retains just enough mischief to be playful and cute.

Bio: Jazzy is a sweet, inquisitive puppy who wants to help around the house and is open to new adventures. So far she has experienced getting spayed, obedience school, riding on a pontoon boat, swimming from the pontoon boat, fish, neighbor dogs, jumping over the fence from a compost heap, partying at the dog park, exploring the tree line in the backyard, and cicadas! She is also the mascot for the Sound Body Jazz Orchestra.

Forums Motto: It's great to be part of the family!

It sure is a hot summer this year. Last summer was not only cooler, but I had a never ending supply of Cicadas outside to eat. These tasty morsels only come out every 17 years, but when they do, BILLIONS of them hatch, mate, lay their eggs and die. Well, I did my part to control the population by eating them like popcorn.
It's getting so hot that I sometimes cut back on the length of my walks around the neighborhood. Sometimes I just like to lie underneath a shade tree and dream about last year. Ummm, cicadas.
Don't get me wrong, I still play a lot outside. I just don't have the stamina in the heat and humidity. It must have something to do with this fur all over my body. Luckily I do shed a lot of it everywhere I go, especially on the carpet and in the cars.
I have found another favorite place to rest inside. It is underneath the futon in the 'computer' room. It's also a nice place to escape from those nasty fireworks and thunderstorms. For some reason those loud noises really freak me out.
Well, it's supposed to hit 96 degrees today and 98 tomorrow with a heat index of 107. I don't even know if I'll have the energy to help Dad with the lawn chores today.

I love meeting new people. When anyone comes to the house I jump, run, sniff, and just generally show off. But recently we had a special house guest that stayed for a WEEK. Her name is Rona and I gathered she is someone special to my Mom and Dad. She came to visit from Arizona after she graduated from something called "law school". She has a righteous dog of her own called Hemmingway who has some awesome ears. He is one of my pup pals on Dogster.
Boy did we have a blast! We did everything together and I wish she could have stayed forever. She taught me some new tricks that I'm just now learning to forget. And what a kick-cat graduation party! There were so many people it made my head spin. Plenty of kids, too. I played with them so much in the back yard that I was wore out the entire next day. And one little girl fed me a solid half-can of Pringles. No lie!
Well, she left a few days later and I can't wait to see her again. I missed her as soon as she was gone. Maybe next time she can bring Hemmy.
WE MISS YOU, RONA.
Love,
Jazzy

We got about 18 inches of snow last week which I hear is not typical in this region. (but what do I know? I'm a puppy!) It was quite an experience plowing through the powder in the back yard and was a challenge squatting in the snow to go potty. Luckily the temperature immediately dropped to about zero degrees F and the snow froze hard. I was able to walk on top of the snow without leaving hardly a mark! I felt like one of those Yellowstone wolves in the nature videos that Dad watches.
The day after Christmas I wasn't feeling good; my tail was tucked beneath my legs and I couldn't sit. I kept trying out of force of habit since that is usually a pre-requisite to getting a treat. The next day we went to the vet; I got x-rayed, poked with a needle and probed in the posterior by a nice lady I previously considered a friend. Now, I'm a pretty laid back dog, but I'm starting to look at rubber gloves a little differently now.
Well, the anti-inflammatory pills are working and I'm back to wagging my tail so everyone's happy. I guess it was worth the $191 my Dad was muttering something about. The snow is melting now so hopefully I'll be able to go for my regular walks around the neighborhood soon.
Whew! What a week. I think I'll go lie down now and relax.
