Arrival Story:
Winnie is the youngest of the three pups (cinders/ alfie then Winnie). And was named after Winnie Mandela. Her full name is Winifred of Kent. But we have shortened it to Winnie. She used to be a tinsy bit over weight hitting the scales at around 17/ 18 pounds but she has now gone down to about 13/ 14 pounds. I was debating when she was born whether to name her after Marilyn Monroe as I have been a huge fan of hers since I was a youngster but the name Winnie suited her better. Winnie stills lives in the house she was born in and so doesnt know any different but we are hoping to move within the next couple of years to a better located house with more pet friendly/ people friendly facilities.

Bio:
Winnie takes after Quinn completely! Like him she loves other dogs companies be it big/ small - fat/ thin she will jump up and lick them right on the nose. She likes to start off as she means to go on - being friendly and nothing else. Winnie has matured into a complete nutter! She loves going for walks and has become (with the rest of the tzus) a attraction around our village. She has also grown into a biggish gurl of about 14 pounds of pure solid blonde:)

Forums Motto:
Its nice to be friendly...try it:)

With a difference.

Instead of answering questions all you have to do in this tag game is to spread a little love around dogster and send some mistletoe kisses to other dogsters.

Give a heart rosette to another dogster be it your girlfriend/ boyfriend or someone you might have a crush on:)

We thought we'd spread a lil tzu love ourselves and as we have started this game the tzus are separately choosing five other dogsters each that (paws crossed) can play this game.

Have fun dogsters:)

Why dogs are the best companions.....

ACTOR Mickey Rourke’s sad decline was turned around by his faith and love for his dogs, as Sandro Monetti’s new biography of the former hellraiser reveals.
Mickey Rourke's acting career is the stuff of Hollywood.

Starting out as a boxer he moved into acting and became an international star in films including Body Heat, Rumble Fish, Barfly, 9 1/2 Weeks and Angel Heart.

He gave it all up to return to the ring in 1991 and was undefeated in his eight fights. However, four years later he tried to make a screen comeback but the reputation he had earned as a difficult-to-work-with hellraiser, not to mention the plastic surgery, which made him almost unrecognisable, meant that nobody wanted to employ him.

All this made his incredible return to the top of the movie tree with last year’s The Wrestler, for which he won a BAFTA Best Actor award and was nominated for an Oscar, even more remarkable.

Nobody makes a comeback in Hollywood like that and it is all the more remarkable for the fact that the tough guy was saved by the church and his beloved dogs.

His lowest ebb came in the mid-Nineties when he found himself on his knees in New York’s church of the Holy Cross on 42nd Street, praying to a sculpture of St Jude for the strength from the patron saint of lost causes to stop himself doing what he thought he was about to do.

With his movie career washed up, his money gone and his second wife, Carre Otis, walking out on him, Mickey was tormented by suicidal and murderous thoughts.

He had a pistol in his pocket and a plan to shoot the man he says beat up and raped his estranged wife, and after that, maybe turn the gun on himself.

Carre, wondering if they would be the last words he would read.

Then he felt the hand of Father Paul colapietro on his shoulder. He was a Rourke fan who had seen Angel Heart 15 times and managed to get Mickey to tell him his troubles, getting him to hand over the gun by saying, “Where in the Bible does it say, ‘Vengeance is mine, says Mickey Rourke’?”

Father Paul took Mickey to light a candle together and assured the actor that God would give him the strength he needed. He watched Mickey place the letter to Carre behind the statue of St Jude and took him to the Rectory to talk more.

It was Mickey’s experience of the Catholic faith that also provided solace after his brother Joey died of cancer in 2004.

Yet there was to be a more worldly reason that Mickey didn’t want to give in: his dogs. Even in his darkest moments, when he was sitting in a closet in his apartment having been deserted by Carre and lost his movie career and considering whether life was worth living at all, his little dog Beau Jack came in and whimpered as if to say: “Who’s going to take care of me if you go?”

It made Mickey take stock and he resolved to take action and signed himself up with a therapist, a profession he had always pooh-poohed, and now, 14 years later, he’s still seeing him.

Mickey’s dogs have provided therapy, too, filling an emotional gap in his life and turning his home into a much happier place.

Beau Jack was a favourite and when he died in 2002 Mickey tried to bring him back with mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. When he knew the dog was gone he took the body to church to be blessed and was only saved from depression after his furry chum’s death by acquiring Beau Jack’s daughter, a chihuahua-terrier mix called Loki, who he has described as “the love of my life”.

Her death in February this year, just six days before the Oscars, was a blow to him. But the fact that his career had been turned around by The Wrestler, that he was acclaimed by his peers and winning awards, and that he had retained his fighting spirit kept him afloat.
