Arrival Story: [Continued from Chalice's page.] V-day 2002, part 2: As we were coming home on the subway, with our empty carrier, I recalled a pet shop on 6th Ave. & 13th St. that always had cute puppies in the window. When we got there at 8:05, they had just closed. However, on me, I had " our ideal dog description" which I had prepared for the shelter. It read, "our most ideal dog should either be a pair of same sex Besenji pups, or a shelter dog with the same or similiar traits." And, would you believe it ... they actually had a pair of same sex Besenji pups in the window [the only time, the entire year they ever have any]. So I left the print out of "our ideal dog description" and a note under the door explaining that we wanted to come visit first thing in the morning about the pups. That night at 10:30pm, the store owner calls [a bit tipsy]: "You want my Beetches, you come get now. They are both going to separate homes man-yana, but I will give them to you tonight if you take both. My Mother-in-Law, she breed these basenjis and I have one from the line myself, and I would like them to stay together." So at 11:45pm, drinking rum with Sal the shopkeep who was blaring The Scorpion's "Rock you like a Hurricane" we got our babies and brought them home. And truthfully, there has not been a day since that they have not lived up to their "theme song."
