Leave a bone for Chira (1998-2007)

Nicknames:
Bitsy

Quick Bio:
-dog rescue

Birthday:
October 20th 1998

Arrival Story:
Chira was picked up from the animal shelter on 10/20/06 and brought into our rescue group. She was found as a stray and was at the shelter for about 4 days but wasn't eating. Then when people tried to pick her up she freaked out so we took her to the vet to see if something was wrong. The vet gave her the name Chira, which she said means "little bat." I really like the name, but it seems too grand for such a tiny little thing, so I've been calling her Bitsy. She is an interesting creature. She's afraid of absolutely everything, including me. She doesn't come to me but will allow me to pick her up and she'll only eat if no one is around. It didn't seem like she had ever walked on a leash so that was a challenge, but she does fine now. She'll be shown for adoption this weekend (11/4 & 11/5) and I'm curious to see how she'll do. **Bitsy was in her show cage for less than 15 minutes on 11/4/06 before a lady wanted to adopt her. The lady had to leave but said she'd be right back. Before she came back, though, someone else was approved to adopt Bitsy. (So the other lady adopted an adorable pomeranian from our group.) That has to be the record for the quickest adoption!

Bio:
**UPDATE 10/9/07: Chira's owner sent an email yesterday saying she "just recently passed away due to old age." We estimated her age at around 8 years old when she adopted her a year ago, which is not old for a chihuahua, so I assumed there was more to the story. I emailed her and this was her response: "Thank you for the e-mail. It happened all of a sudden. It was Sunday. She woke up breathing hard. When she tried to stand up she was not able to. I called the er vet and they said to bring her over. As we were on our way she passed away. There was nothing they could do. They asked how old she was and when we told them they said they thought she was a bit older. I am glad that we had her for as long as we did. She brought great joy into our lives."
