Arrival Story: We adopted her from PAWS Atlanta, a no-kill shelter, when she was two months old. She was tiny, scared and very cute. The minute we picked her, she licked our faces - and so she was called Kiss! Eight months later, we moved to Bangalore, India...and Kiss moved half way around the world with us!
Bio: While in PAWS Atlanta, her name was Emma. She was part of a mixed litter of four .
We do not know who her dad is. Her mom is a Beagle. People say her dad could have been a Lab.
Kiss is one of the kindest and gentlest dog I have ever seen. She has had the privilege of spending time and playing with intellectually challenged children at an institute in New Delhi called Muskaan and The kids and Kiss cannot wait to do the same again.
She loves to travel, be it by road or air. The local newspaper even did an article on her when the bus she (along with my parents )was tavelling in, from one state to another, got stranded midway for 26 hours due to heavy rains and flooding of a local river. She amazed even the most die-hard cynics during those gruesome hours and managed to spread a lot of cheer and keep the children entertained with her antics.
Kiss treats our cockatiel (love) like her own baby and loves to share her stuff with her sister.
She has taught us the value of spreading unconditional love.
HOORAY !!!! its that time of the year again....when it's acceptable for Mom to shed happy tears throughout the day and no one thinks she's nuts.
We love reading all the heartwarming adoption stories.......they can convince any cynic in the "Power of the Paw".
Adopt 09 is extra special for us...cause this year my family was blessed with a new member . So im going to dedicate this diary entry to my furless 8 month old baby sister cause i want her to know what a pleasure it is to be her family.
Mom and Dad became parents third time over ( me being the first baby and my cockatiel sister beng the second baby) in october when they adopted my furless human baby sister "Veda".
Most people told them to act sensible and give me up , or atleast send me to a relative once the baby was home, but they were adamant. Mom would say "who gives up their first baby when they have a second one" .....Plus she's secretly always had a fantasy of having a houseful of pets and children.
Can you blame her,I mean, pets and children...life doesn't get any better does it ??
Ok so now to all the fun part of being an elder sister.......instead of the one who was always getting trained...Now i do the training.
To begin with I've managed to teach "Veda" that when i bark at the door it means we have visitors = people who will play with both of us.
Also when i do the crazy dance at the main door...it means daddy's home = now we don't have to follow Mom's rules anymore.
Ofcourse food and toys will always be shared and it's always a better toy if it wasn't overly priced and sold exclusively as a baby or dog toy. Shoes make the tastiest snack and teether in the world. Bath times are fun till they wet your face. Making an "oh so cute" face will get you whatever you want . oh my the list goes on and on....
But the best thing in the whole wide world is to know that no matter what you will always be loved and cared for.
I pray that no family has to give up their pet just cause they are bringing a baby home...I know that didn't happen to me but i wish that it never happens with any pet.
Mommy says we make the bestest friends any child could ever have and hey look at the bright side...we even help with their training :))
We remember the day we picked up this little bundle of joy from PAWS Atlanta as if it were yesterday. It was September of 2004 when we brought this two month old beagle / lab mix home. Little did we know that this pup ,whom we aptly named Kiss, would change our lives in such a profound way.
Kiss is one of the kindest and gentlest dog I have ever seen. She became everyone's darling in no time. It was amazing to see her play with kids . She enjoyed their company and didn't mind her tail being pulled or her ears being twisted at all.
When Kiss was 8 months old, we had to relocate to India on account of work. There was no way we were going to leave Kiss behind , so she made the 22 hours plane ride traveling in the cargo pet hold .
Half way around the world, she soon found her calling. She started working with special needs children at the Spastics Society in Bangalore, India. This was a new experience for many of the kids, especially since Canine therapy is a relatively new concept in India.
She works with these kids to provide them with motor , speech , sensitivity and socialization sessions. The Kids absolutely love and adore Kiss. Teachers at the Spastics Society have been extremely supportive and appreciative of the work done by Kiss in this short time.
She loves to travel , be it by air, water or road and is always ready to go on a trip and is the best travel companion one could have asked for .
She amazed even the most die-hard cynics ,when the bus she was traveling in got stranded midway for 30 hours due to heavy rains and flooding of a local river. During those gruesome hours she managed to spread a lot of cheer and keep the children and adults entertained with her antics.
Kiss treats our cockatiel (love) like her own baby and loves to share her stuff with her sister. She even lets "love" eat and drink from her Bowl.
No matter what the weather , It is always warm and Sunny with Kiss around.
Kiss has had the privilege of touching so many lives and taught us the value of spreading unconditional Love.
Thanks to all the good work being done by everyone at PAWS Atlanta , we have been blessed with such a wonderful family member . We are so very grateful to all of them.
The spastic society has re-opened after a two month break and I went to play with all my friends today.
Mom went to meet the Principal before we went to meet all my friends in their classes and I sat outside the principal's office and whined like a baby.... I just did not want to waste a minute of playing ......
Can u believe they all remembered me ,my name and all........
I met all my friends.... sniffing and wagging my tail and accepting treats like I never get any at home
Mom had to pull and drag me out of school when it was time to go. Everyone laughed at me ........ but I didn't wanna go back home so soon .
Mom says it was 3 hours , but to me it felt like 5 minutes.
We go back again next monday and this year I get to go to more classes....
More classes =more friends = more play with ball= more treats
