Arrival Story:
My husband and I rescued Emma, at five months old, from an animal welfare league. She came to the group with her sister and two brothers from a home that was broken up due to domestic violence. Emma was in a cage with her brother. We made eye contact and it was love at first sight. But, we did not leave the store with Emma right away. In the car on the way home I was very sad and I told my husband I wanted to go get "Anna" which was her name at the time. He secretly wanted her, too, and we made an illegal u-turn to go back for her. When we took her home that evening, the 4-year-old that lived next door asked what her name was. We had already decided that we were not going to keep the name Anna. My huband asked the little girl what she would name the puppy. She suggested "Emma." My husband claims that this is exactly what he was thinking. So, Emma it was.

Bio:
On March 1, 2003, we brought home a mild-mannered, five-month-old puppy. When we first met her, she just wanted to sit in Mommy's lap. When we got her home, she was too scared to go up the stairs and she slept under our bed at night. However, she quickly learned that Mommy and Daddy would cater to her every whim and she now rules the roost. When anyone enters a room that Emma is in, she rolls over and expects a tummy rub. When she feels she is not receiving enough attention, she barks until she does. She is no longer scared to get in bed with us. On the contrary, she nudges us to let her under the covers and must touch Mommy at all times during the night. Emma does not like anyone to receive attention that could be showered on her, and she makes this known. One of her favorite activities is jumping on Mommy and Daddy when they kiss or wedging herself between them on the couch. She thinks all displays of affection should be cleared with her first. Emma also has a strong mind of her own and often stares at us defiantly before she complies with a command. However, if a treat is involved, she responds much quicker. She often sticks a paw up before we can give a command, thinking she can get to the treat more quickly. She is our Princess and we love her spoiled-rotten self.
