Likes: Food, barking for attention, playing Keep-Away, and catching birds, mice, and moths.
Pet-Peeves: Balloons, bubble wrap, bubblegum, and when Sachi (her Westie sister) plays violently with her toys.
Favorite Toy: She's not really into toys unless I chase her for them.
Favorite Food: Anything she isn't supposed to have. :P
Best Tricks: Dig - If you tell her to dig she'll claw at someone as if she's digging. Then we all laugh at the person's pain.
Arrival Story: I begged my mom and even wrote her a letter naming the reasons that I should get my very own dog for my 13th birthday. Amazingly it worked, eventhough we already had two dogs. We found a breeder and went to her house; as soon as the woman opened the door a little puppy bolted out. Since that puppy was out playing we looked at the remaining three. I wanted one of the boys with a spot on his back. Luckily, he had already been spoken for. By that time the bolting puppy had finished running around and came back to the house. My mom said we should take her, and after a little hesitance, I agreed. I now know that Keiko was always meant for me. Heavenly Father gave us 15 years together and I'm so grateful for that time. She passed away, in my arms, on February 1, 2010.
I'm so sick of hearing about Rainbow Bridge this and Rainbow Bridge that. Has anybody ever read the Rainbow Bridge poem? Rainbow Bridge does not equal heaven. The poem says that the dogs wait at the bridge for their owners to show up before going on to heaven. A dog waiting room of sorts. Keiko isn't waiting for me at some stupid Rainbow Brite Bridge. She, and my other deceased dogs, have moved onto the next existence. They co-exist with spirits of all types, not just dogs.
It irks me even more when people say that their dog will welcome someone else's dog to rainbow bridge. Really? So you think your dog is in spirit form and says... "you know what, I'm going to be this random dog's best buddy because my owner typed it on a message board." Ridiculous.
Another stupid thing is when someone that has gone on and on about Rainbow Bridge admits that they don't actually believe in it. If you don't believe in it, why are you pretending like you do?! Stop playing make believe and get a life. (Btw, stop pretending to be your dog and confessing your love for another dog. It's super creepy. Especially when accompanied by photo-shopped pictures of your dog's head on a human body. Go to a game called Furcadia or a furre message board with all that nonsense. I don't want to see it.)
Do you know why I didn't post in the Saying Goodbye: Memorials & Support section of the forum when Keiko died? Because I didn't want a bunch of people telling me that Keiko is at the Rainbow Bridge, playing with their dog and eating hamburgers. It's not comforting, it's offensive. So do me a favor and SHUT UP!
It's Keiko's fourteenth birthday today. I finally got around to putting some new pictures on her page. She is too adorable. :D
Now for a quick update on how she is doing medically. For those of you that haven't read the previous diary entries, she has heart failure. So, twice a day she takes lasix, enacard, vetmedin, renakare, and azodyl. She also takes liquid vitamins and is on special food.
She seems to be doing well. A few months ago I had to take her into the vet because she wasn't eating. That is when azodyl was added to her routine and she has been fine since.
She has really grown fond of my sister and her dog. It's very rare for her to feel that comfortable with other people so I'm happy that she has them. Even if it seems as though she chooses them over me sometimes. ;)
I took Keiko into the vet at the end of December because she was having trouble breathing. Her lungs were full of fluid because of her heart failure. The vet put her on lasix and enalapril. A few months later she was also put on Vetmedin.
Her kidneys are also failing now but she's doing okay considering.
My big concern right now is her weight. She has lost quite a bit and it doesn't seem like anything is helping. The vet said it's tough to keep weight on a dog in her condition. She now weighs 10.4 lbs and I can easily feel her bones when I pet her. She is always cold so she wears a lot of sweaters.
Even though she has all sorts of medical issues going on, she is a happy lil bug.
