Arrival Story:
Molly is from the Humane Society. We just got her recently and she was found along side a country road. The person that reported her said she was there on his way to work in the morning and in the same spot when he returned. She was too scared to move. Come to find out she was hit by a car. She has a fractured and dislocated hip and will be having surgery soon. She is a very mild mannered dog and never makes a peep. She loves to be loved and have a lot of love to give. **Update** Molly has had her surgery and is doing better than expected.. she is a true trooper! We are so glad to have her as part of our family!

It's been too long again...

Hey-ya! I haven't been on here for quite some time. Things have been a little crazy lately. I haven't been feeling quite up to par but because of it I have been SPOILED!
In October I got this really uncomfortable growth on my shoulder. I would not leave it alone!! It really didn't bother me too bad until mom and dad took me to the vet. They thought it was allergies again and that it was just a reaction to something. I was put on some meds...but it kept getting bigger. It was HUGE! They took me back to the vet a week later and they had to do a biopsy. I wasn't too scared because they are so nice. Mom and Dad were really anxious. I could just sense it. They got the bad news on Monday, October 11th.
I have Malignant Histiocytosis. It is a terminal cancer that is typical in older Bermese Mountain Dogs. Who knows...maybe I have a long lost uncle mountain dog somewhere out there...but if you saw me, it doesn't look like me at ALL! Mom and Dad were really upset. I just tried to be there with them while they cried. They didn't know what to do. They said they would always do everything they could for me. I believed them.
The next day I had to go on a long car ride! I was a little scared because the longest car ride for me was 30 minutes. It took us about 2 hours to get there. They called it OSU Vet Hospital. As soon as I walked in I wasn't scared anymore. The people there are SO nice...except for a few of the receptionist ladies (at least that is what Mom says..). They had to do a bunch of things to me. They did another biopsy and more bloodwook. After about 10 hours of being there, I finally got to go home.
I guess before we left Dr.Garcia (the oncologist) had to give Mom and Dad some information. She said that if I get the Chemo I have about 6 months to live. If I don't get the Chemo, it will be less. They were pretty upset. They definately wanted to do the Chemo. She also said that only about 1 out of every 20 dogs with this type of terminal cancer responds to the lomustine therapy and that don't be surprised if she doesn't respond.
Chemo was started on 10/12/05. The first week wasn't very good. I only got worse. I was so tired and the tumor kept getting bigger. The arm that the tumor was located on was so swolen...about double the size of the other one. Mom and Dad weren't doing very well.. They talked to a lot of doctors. Finally one doctor at OSU said to give it a couple more days. I'm so glad they listened to him (but I do know that they would only do what was best for me). The next day I started to feel a little better. I was still sleepy though. Mom noticed that my tumor had gotten a TINY bit smaller. Baby steps. The mood in the house changed. It kinda made me feel better. Another week went by and I was playing with my toys again. I'm really feeling better.
I had to go back to OSU on 10/18/05. They were so happy. They said my white blood cell count was low...but that was normal and they put me on some antibiotics. Other than that they said I didn't have to come back for two weeks!! I was excited! I kept getting better and better.
I went back to OSU today because it is time for my next Chemo treatment. It has been three weeks since I started all of this. The visible tumor is GONE! Yes thats right, G-O-N-E!!! I am still sick...but I'm a MIRACLE DOGGY!! Doc says I might feel a little crappy with this next dose of treatment...but I will pull through!!
Wanna hear the best news of all?????? TOMORROW IS MY BIRTHDAY!! I'll be the BIG 2!! I know I know...I'll only be 2...but I'm a BIG STRONG BRAVE girl...at least that is what mom says!! I can't wait for the birthday cake!!
Pray for me!!
Until next time...
-Molly

Well, Mom and Dad went on Vacation and they didn't take me with them!!! Can you believe that! They said that I wouldn't like the 12 hour drive and NO DOGS ALLOWED in the CONDO! Who made those rules! They are no FUN! Well...they took me to the vet! I was excited to see my friends...but 8 days was WAY TOO LONG! The first day was okay, the second was a little annoying, then after that I went crazy! I was so bored!! My legs were a little sore when I came home from all the laying in the kennel.. I made mom feel so sorry for me!! She has spoiled me rotten!! She keeps wanting to take me outside to play. I feel back because it's just too darn hot out there and I always sit on the deck waiting to come in. They just don't understand how hot I get with all this hair!!

They had to give me a bath today. They said that the kennels can get dirty and they don't want me to get flees.. Granted, I have been licking and itching like crazy, but I don't think I have flees. Dad remembered to put the Frontline on me before I went to the vet. I hate that stuff...it makes my hair greesy!! haha

Well... I need to get going..I think dad has a Pop Tart!! I get to beg! I love those things!
C-Ya'll later!
-Molly
