China has gone to the Bridge

It is with a very sad heart that I have to announce China's departure for the Bridge this morning. She was an old, old girl at 10-1/2 years and was becoming quite creaky. Having said that, she still had a good quality of life and the pain meds relieved the aches and pains of arthritis.

However, last night China had a heart attack and was clearly a very sick dog. My husband and China's dearest daddy took her to the vet this morning and it was clear that we had arrived at the end of the road for her. She passed to the Bridge peacefully in her daddy's arms.

We are devastated that our precious girl has gone. I know the pain of grief will grow less as the days pass but we will never, ever forget this beautiful dog who overcame such an horrendous start in life.

Bless you darling, always in our hearts.

China's Law #51
If you're out for a walk with your mom and you hear really weird screechy noises on the other side of the trees, don't investigate. Get your mom home to safety as soon as possible.

China's Law #32
If there's a spot of sun shining into the room, I get first dibs.

If the sun has moved from its usual sunbathing spot on the floor: simply go to where it IS and stare meaningfully at your owner so they get the hint and move your bed to the sunny position.

When there's a puppy in the house, just stay in bed.

Size DOES matter

If there is more than one blankie on the floor, the largest one is always mine.

China's law states that all blankies and quilts that are on the floor constitute nests in kit form for her sole use and comfort.

So there.

Where there's a will ...

... there's a way :0)

You see, our mummy has banned us from spending all day snoozing in the sitting room. She said we made such a lot of mess with hair and dust getting into everything. So that's that. No more sprawling in the sun while we digest our breakfast. BUT ... she reckoned without my smarties.

This is where it pays to be on the small side because I can sneak past that horrible gate thing they put on the stairs and tippy-toe up into the pawrents bedroom. The sun shines through their window too and I don't have to share with my stinky bro!

Pneumonia: NOT a good weight loss regime

Henry and I went to a dog show, where I won 1st prize in Best Veterans (0ver 8's). We got more than we bargained for though, cos a week later we both developed kennel cough.

At least, Henry developed kennel cough. Me, I got pneumonia. I was really ill, I couldn't eat and had to go to see Doctor Mark every day for a shot. Mummy was terribly worried, especially when I was so weak I was tottering around.

But finally they changed my antibiotic and I started to get better! But I lost 5kg in 6 days and I'm still not back to my perfect figure.

Now, where's that ice cream?

Some pawrents!

Some pawrents just don't GET IT! At least, not immediately.

On the weekends, after breakfast Henry and I go into the sitting room to lie on oour comfy beds to rest and digest. If mummy doesn't open the door fast enough, I stare at her and bore my merciless eyes into her back. It's a strong person who can withstand the power of MY will.

Well, it's been cold this morning so I thought it would be nice if mummy turned the fire on for me so I could rest in the warmth. I knew I'd have to put on an extra show to get my point across so I looked as cute as I know how and wagged my tail at her. She opened the sitting room door but didn't get the hint. So I tried again. Nix. She opened the door but no fire.

I tried AGAIN. Third time lucky! Mummy isn't exactly stupid so she did pick up on the fact that I wanted the fire on and she obeyed.

Editor's note: I may have turned the fire ON but I went into the room a few minutes later to turn it OFF. So Lady China may think she's got one over one me, but evidently hasn't heard that old adage "she who laughs last laughs longest".
