Arrival Story: I already had My Simon and Maggie Mae, so I wasn't looking for another 4-legged child when I stopped to get my mail at the apartment complex where I was living. The apartment manager's two long-haired dachshunds had just had their first litter, and her husband was bringing two of them to the apartment office. So, I hung out to see the babies. One of them was Ace, a playful little black and tan long-haired dachshund. Ace's parents were both red, but his paternal grandfather was black and tan. Maggie's father (Elvis) was black and tan, so I was thinking they could make great babies together. It would be like Forrest Gump's box of chocolates--we would never know what we would get! Of course, I couldn't resist Ace, so he went home with me that day!
Unfortunately, as hard and as often as he tries, Maggie keeps telling him "No", so I still don't have any 4-legged grandchildren.

Bio: Ace was well accepted by Maggie and Simon. They've spent hours chasing each other in circles, and curling up for naps together. When Ace and Maggie have been out for a walk, Simon checks them to make sure they're ok when they return. They do the same to Simon when he's been outside.
Ace is always worrying that Simon is going to steal his milkbone or treat, and growls at him if he walks by too fast. Now, he's really sorry he ever growled at Simon and promises to be nicer if Simon would just come home. He also promises not to sleep in the tented kitty litter box anymore.
Ace loves sleeping in front of the fireplace or heater, just like Maggie and Simon. He really likes to stay close to his Mommy, especially when it's bedtime. He's down under the covers with Maggie.
When there's a thunderstorm, everybody's in the big bed with Mom.
Ace was super brave in February, 2006, when the house was burglarized. He barked incessantly until the burglar kicked or hit him with something. Ace had a swollen cheek and black eye for a few days, and he had a seizure from the head trauma 2 days later. That really scared Ace's Mom. He's recovered and hasn't had any more seizures. He still barks ferociously at anyone who walks by or comes to the door.

Yes, Mom's got it right...I'm really a Rottweiler trapped in a little dog suit! Just ask that burglar who stole all Mom's stuff last year...I told him a thing or two...and just cuz I've lost all my back teeth as a result of that bad guy kicking me in the face doesn't mean I'm any less ferocious...
My main job is to protect my Mom. I stay next to her at all times. Then, I protect My Maggie. She's "MY Girl"! Mom says if we ever have puppies, they'll be like Forest Gump's chocolates--no telling what we'll get!
I also help Maggie with the cat management around here. We told Mom when the bad lady stole Simon from the yard, but it was too late. We keep sniffing the neighborhood hoping to find him.
In the meantime, I'm teaching Duchess that Mom's Lap belongs to Me whenever I want it. Mom says I have to share, so I'm working on that too. The thing is, since Doc Bill had to remove my back teeth and I started eating soft food (yummmy!), I've put on a few extra pounds, so Mom's lap can get a little crowded.
Maggie and I give the cats a hard time, teaching them our rules, but don't misunderstand. We really do love them. If anything happened to one of them, we'd be really upset. I even play with Duchess sometimes, pretending I'm a kitten. We roll around, wrestling on the rug, while Maggie and Austin watch us.
I love my naps with Mom, under the covers of course, and I figured out the bed's big enough for Mom and all of us "kids". Duchess needs to quit spiking everybody, though...
Gotta run now...there's somebody walking past the house and I gotta give 'em my Big Dog Bark!...
