Arrival Story:
My mother was visiting a few years ago and accompanied us to the animal shelter where my wife and I were volunteering. Poncho had been turned in by his previous owner with his twin sister named Lola. Someone had previously adopted Lola from the shelter, but left Poncho alone by himself. We could tell he was very confused and missed his sister a lot. When my mother saw him, she half-seriously asked, "You already have two, what's one more?" Because he was so sad and because we had already broken our rule of not adopting any dogs at the shelter, we decided to bring him home. During his first few weeks, he spent all of his time in his crate and was very confused about what was happening. Before long, however, he was running around the house and trying to get our other dogs to play with him. Now he's the catalyst for excitement in the household, always in the middle of whatever's happening. We call him "Play-time-all-the-time Poncho." At times I think he still remembers and misses his sister, but he's settled in and loves his doggie pack.
