Arrival Story:
We had owned a big yellow Labrador for 13 years. After she passed, I felt like I couldn't have another dog too much like her, so started looking at breeds. I can't remember what led me to choose a Cocker Spaniel, but they are terrific dogs - loving but very willful. Perfect little Princesses!

Bio:
Cotton was a wonderful, bossy little dog and we miss her very much. She died just short of 13, back in May. We are just now bringing another puppy in to the house, and I feel that Cotton will approve. She is out in the back garden with the dog who preceded her - a big yellow lab named Dixie. The new puppy is a lab. We switched off to a cocker because I thought a smaller dog would be easier to handle. Boy did I have that wrong! Cotton ruled her world, but she was a good Princess and always kind to us, her staff and servants. I have to tell a Cotton story or two. One habit she had as she grew older was to command people (mostly me) to serve her when she required something. She would bark to be let out, stroll for a minute and bark to be let back in. She would bark for a treat, sometimes when her "cookie" plate full of snaps was just out of reach she would summon me from wherever I was in the house so that I could move it a little closer. Or even just hand the cookies right to her. The other morning, I heard her bark very clearly. I think she wanted me to start getting up early as I used to do with her. I think she is letting me know that I will soon have a puppy in the house and that she, Cotton, will be making sure that it is treated like a Princess, as she was.

Five Years?

A month short of five years little girl. And I still miss petting you on your curly head. And smelling your powder smell when you had a grooming.

I can't believe it has been so long.

We have your picture near the side door, where you liked to run out and play in the yard. It is the one where you are wearing that little red sweater and you look ready to run and have fun.

Tomorrow I am going to bring a puppy back in that door...a buff cocker like you. She won't be like you, and I know that...but I know I will think of you whenever I see her.

Her name is Cookie. I am rescuing her. By giving her all the best treatment she can have I guess I think it can be like having you back in a way and spoiling you again.

Run free little girl. There will come a day...

Another Anniversary...

Another year without you running here with us. We miss you so.

Can you look down and see us? We are in the backyard everynight, running and playing. We would love to have you here to play with us.

Someday, sweet girl - we will all run through the wide fields together.

3 years yesterday.

And I am not so sad as I was for a long time after. Even losing my sweet baby has healed, and I have moved ahead. But every day that passes, sweetheart - brings us closer to the day we are all together again.

Run like the wind, little angel. We will have a grand company at the Bridge someday when all of us are together!

Love you always.
