butch was gentle and kind to all he met and knew when someone needed his attention

Pet-Peeves:
stairs and elevators

Favorite Toy:
a faded yellow dragon he took care of his whole life

Favorite Food:
not picky at all.

Favorite Walk:
butch just wanted to be with you...he was prone to heat stroke though so long walks weren't his thing. he liked to rest often. he liked to ski with us and frequently walked on your skies

Best Tricks:
butch carried everything and anything. cats in their carriers into the vet, cases of dog food, groceries. he also was great at leaving things on his nose until told to take it.

Arrival Story:
i was in vet tech school and wanted a very mellow dog as our last dog had been a biter. my friend said she had a lab puppy that a breeder had decided not to keep. she showed up at school with this "puppy" that was 60 pounds already. i was shocked at the size as i hadn't wanted a horse, but he was terribly sweet and came to be one of the best dogs i've ever met. he came to work with me every day and greeted owners and animals. when someone would lose a beloved pet butch was right there to comfort them.

Bio:
butch and i traveled many miles together. he was king of the roadtrip. moved with me from california to south dakota and then on to alaska. i always knew he had the biggest heart ever but one day that heart grew to large and he was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy. he passed out and the small town vet in ketchikan would do nothing for us so i went to the local human doc who diagnosed my big guy and helped me get him on meds. my vet friends from california helped as well, but eventually that heart just couldn't keep up with his needs. i spent his last nights with him as it was so tough to say goodbye to my big goofy boy and then i let him go. they had no means of caring for his body other than moving aside the city garbage. i was devastated at that prospect and ended up burying him on a rainy day in the mud. i had to leave him behind and i miss him terribly. i've never met a dog who was so mellow and so sweet and kind before or since. he was one of a kind and i know he touched more hearts than i'll ever know. his paws still walk across my heart and bring me joy. i can't wait til that day i can rejoin him and all my other furry friends at the bridge.

a hugger of hugs,
once hugged a hugger,
and the hugger he hugged,
hugged another,
the last hugged the first,
and the first hugged the last,
so how many hugs,
did the huggers pass????

mom loves a tongue twister and i love hugs so together we just made a hug twister!!

thanks butchie...i knew you wouldn't mind having another poem on your page....blossy

beyond the stars,
beyond our grasp,
a bridge of love awaits us,
and as each flake or raindrop falls,
it sends with it some love,
so run outside,
stretch forth your arms,
and look up toward the sky,
all the love you shared before,
comes gently now to touch your soul,
it's blessings from above.
