She was labeled "vicious". I had an application filled out that I could rehabilitate dogs & as soon as I was approved she was given to me. She's a great joy & blessing. She's very smart. She gets along with anybody who is familiar with the breed & avoids those who are nervous around her. My 1 yr old niece plays with her. I GOT A DEAL!!! She loves to go bye byes.

Bio:
Our family has an annual Memorial Weekend Camping Family Reunion Trip. We all take our dogs. Ellie went in 2007 & 2008 along with Homer (14.5 yrs) & Loki (3yrs). We had a lot of fun. Some how Ellie got a cut on her side. When we got home from our trip I noticed Ellie's boo boo. I cleaned it twice a day & tried to keep from going to the vet. It turned into a smelly horrible abcess. I took Ellie in to a have her infected wound treated. While I was there I asked Dr. Butto to look at a "fatty" tumor on her back leg. She took a needle aspirate of it & came back 10 minutes later with THAT LOOK. She knew then it was mast cell cancer. Ellie was scheduled for emergency surgery a few days later. Dr. Mech took it out. It was as big as my hand if not bigger. It was sent to pathology to be graded. We saw the Veterinary Oncologist. My Ellie had mast cell (grade III) cancer. It's a very aggressive form of cancer that rarely goes into remission once its higher than a grade I for the breed. She's only 5. I'd had her for only 2 years. I thought, "this isn't fair!! She's a rescue... and she has to die young. Why God???? Why????". I thought since she was so spunky before the visit to the vet for the boo boo that she had a real chance at getting the chemo & living a couple or few extra years. We couldn't start the chemo until her surgical wound had healed. It took 5 long weeks for her surgical wound to heal. After the surgery she was just not quite her spunky little self anymore. I could see the look in her eyes she didn't understand why her body was changing. I decided against the chemo. She could barely tolerate these changes. The prednisone caused her to eat & drink a lot more. She became bloated & begged for lots of belly rubs. The prednisone caused her to get Cushing's. Cushing's & her cancer called for the same treatment. Chemo. But by this time the cancer had spread from her leg to her neck. Her neck lymph nodes & glands were golf ball size in less than 3 months & it was going to slowly choke her. I knew when the time would come my decision would have to be swift. She was so good about all the pills she had to take. She would just take them. Like I was giving her a treat. In the end she made it very easy (if one can call this part easy) to make the decision. Three days before she passed away, she just quit eating. She stopped taking her pills. She cuddled with me all the time. The day she quit taking her pills I cried & took a deep breath & made THE APPOINTMENT. Her neck became very enlarged. I gave her all kinds of easy to eat treats & spoiled her. Three days later with family & friends gathered around her. I held her in my arms in our living room while the vet techs did what had to be done. She passed so peacefully. She was my blessing. I miss her....
