Likes: Food of any kind, playing with other dogs, BELLY RUBS!
Pet-Peeves: Not being fed.
Favorite Toy: Any of Riley's old toys. She likes stuffed toys that still squeek.
Favorite Food: Anything.
Favorite Walk: Going to the dog park and playing with Riley.
Best Tricks: Staying alive! This girl was emacisated beyond belief. She managed to survive starvation and didn't get caught on something because she was wearing a choke collar when found, and she's HW-. What an amazing girl!
Arrival Story: A couple found her and brought her into the shelter. I took one look at her and decided she needed to go to the vet ASAP. Our shelter doesn't have the resources to treat her right now so I am looking for a rescue to take her. *** UPDATE*** Free Spirit Siberian Husky Rescue has agreed to take Gypsy in! They will take care of her and find her a wonderful home!! Visit their website at www.huskyrescue.org
Bio: She is probably one of the most emaciated dogs I have ever seen. It might be a little hard to tell in the pictures but feeling her bones in her neck is just disgusting. She weighed 31lbs when she was brought in and a healthy weight is probably 50-60lbs. Amazingly she is HW- and seems to be in pretty decent health other than the fact she was starving.
She is also fairly young, most likely under 2 years old. ***
*** Gypsy came to stay at my house until she was able to be transported to IL. She was so sweet and loving during her stay. Everyone who meets her loves her, including dogs and people! She even charmed Riley into playing with her at the dog park. Everyone is amazed at how good she looks after being near death just a few weeks ago. Also I have determined that she is younger than I previously thought. I think she is close to a year old, maybe a little older but no way is she over two years old.
Forums Motto: Opt to Adopt!!
PEOPLE WHO HELPED: Just wanted to name all those who helped get Gypsy rescue: Lucy and pack, Takoda and pack, Gabrielle, Karen from Free Spirit, and Ed (not on Dogster).
UPDATE: Gypsy is well on her way to weighing 50lbs, if not there already. She easily made the trip to IL and will be looked over by the folks at Free Spirit. She will be available for adoption through them. Gypsy is just a fun-loving, high energy dog with lots of love to give! I am so thankful for the brief period she was in my life, and she will be in my heart forever.
Great news! I was adopted by a great family!! I have a new mom and dad as well as a human brother and doggie sister. My new sister is a black GSD and my, won't be make a pretty pair? My new mom fell in love with me partly because of my name and story. I wasn't exactly what they had in mind for a second dog but I won them over and they knew that I needed them as much as they needed me.
So wish me luck in my new home. Hopefully I will be well behaved and learn the rules quickly. Also I really hope my new sister likes me as much as I like her because I love playing with other dogs!
Thanks again to Lucy's Mom for giving FM the scoop on my adoption!!
These pups helped make Gypsy's rescue and transport possible. Gypsy will most likely be listed on Free Spirit's website later this week and she is available for adoption through them.
I was sad to see Gypsy go but I know she is in a good place and will hopefully find her forever home soon!! I will keep her page up until she is adopted and will add a few pictures of her transport and stay with Takoda and family (I heard there was wrestling and a lake involved). Thanks every-pup for your help and support!!
I got to go back to the vet's yesterday. No, it was a good thing. FM wanted to show me off to everyone who took care of me for the first ten days after I was found. They oh-ed and ah-ed over me and how they could barely see my ribs. Then they weighed me. Still at 44lbs. No gain from Saturday. That was a little weird but they figured my body was just trying to catch up and I have been very active this week so I am making sure that some of those calories are turned into healthy muscle. But then they put me in a head lock so FM could finally trim my nails. She said I was too much of a spazz for her to be able to do it by herself. Whatever! I was a good girl though and it was done really quick.
I was happy to see everyone there though, especially Monica. She used to work at the shelter with FM and she took extra special care of me. She's such a cool doggie person.
Well, I'm tired. Riley and I had a pretty good play session this morning and I am beat. I'll bark at y'all later. I know something in the works though and I've heard a bath and transport being mentioned. Don't know what's going on there but I am excited to find out!
