Arrival Story: I was fostering dogs for a local rescue group that pulls dogs out of local kill shelters. I got quite attached to my very first foster, but let her go anyway because I knew the care with which adopters were chosen. I decided I wasn't going to get attached to any more of my fosters because, I kept telling myself, I already had one dog and didn't really need another. That worked great until I started fostering Shiner, who had been pulled out of a shelter mere hours from euthanasia. I hadn't been really ready to foster another dog right then, but Shiner's trial period with a nearby family didn't work out, so the rescue group asked me if I would foster him. I did, and he very quietly snuck in and stole my heart. He's sensitive, sweet natured, and loves to cuddle. And of course, the longer he stayed with me the happier he became. I adopted him several months later. His enthusiasm and general "joie de vivre" brings joy to my heart, lifting my spirits each day. Shiner Bark is truly my "sunshine".
Shiner lives with 2 well trained humans, his best friend Mallory, and 4 totally spoiled cats.
Bio: Shiner Bark is a smooth coated Border Collie named in honor of a favorite beer around these parts, Shiner Bock. If you notice that his ears don't quite match, it's not his fault. Shiner was attacked by another dog during his stay at an animal shelter. He has a small piece missing out of one ear so it doesn't stand up straight. The mismatch only adds to his charm.
Shiner has been doing well in his rally classes and recently earned his AKC Rally Novice title. He's also been instinct tested for herding and was found to have a keen drive and strong, natural instinct. He started herding lessons in January 'o9.
