Arrival Story:
Bella adopted me on October 1, 2005. She was featured on the Hillsborough County Animal Services website on Friday evening, September 30, 2005 and I knew that I had to go get her. I got there bright and early on Saturday morning and she was in the first pen by the door. Bella came right to the gate and greeted me, as if she knew I was there for her. I told the attendant that this was, indeed, the dog for me. The attendant asked me to go out and play with Bella in the yard, as she was a very shy and hesitant dog and I would need this opportunity to bond with her. He told me that she did not respond to people very well and would let no one near her. I told the attendant that I was certain that this was the dog for me, but I would heed his advice and take her outside to play with her. As he was opening the gate, I got down on my knees to be at eye level with her and let her know that I was okay. She came out of the pen, walked right over to me and climbed up my chest and placed her head on my shoulder like a baby. There was no need to take her outside. We had just become a family.

When my mom first came to get me at the shelter, they told her my name was Ariel. I didn't answer to it and Mom didn't like it very much, so she changed my name to Bella. Don't I look like a Bella? Well, Mom found out why my last family named me named Ariel last week.

Mom's favorite Disney movie is The Little Mermaid, so she was very excited to get it when it came out on DVD. She bought it a couple of weeks ago, but didn't watch it until last weekend. Boy, was she in for a surprise!!!

The mermaid in the movie - her name is Ariel too! What Mom didn't know is that whenever the mermaid sings in this movie, I do too!!! I like her voice so I try to sing with her, and much louder than her too!!!

Mom was very surprised, but now she knows why Ariel was my first name!!
