Arrival Story:
I wouldn't move into my house (I closed Jan. 5 2005 and put my previous pup, Bean, to sleep on Dec. 31 2004) until I got some new pups. I saw Figaro at Pet Smart in the adoption section. The next day I went to see Figaro at the rescue / pound and instantly fell in love with him. He jumped in my lap and put his paws around my neck. I thought he was still a pup but...he was full grown! I took him and his kennel mate home and moved into my house that night. They promptly ate all of my furniture, tested my patience and then swallowed my heart whole.

Bio:
He was abused my a man who worked third shift. He had VERY, VERY low self esteem. I had to work with him for almost a year building up his ego. He no longer lays down and rolls on his back submissively and thankfully no longer pees when he gets scared. Oh and he is all muscle!! 100% beefcake and unbeknownst to me...even though his legs are short and stocky he can jump, flatfooted, up on the back of the couch...from the floor!!

It's been a long hard road....but worth the travel

My first two years at home with Mom

Lord, I didn't think that Mom was going to make it.

I couldn't help that I was abused. In the beginning I reall liked to take my anger and frustrations out on her furniture - eating cushions, couches, some king of expensive pillow - temerpedic something or other...yummy. I didn't know if she was the "real thing". I was so scared when she resuced me that I couldn't even hear the doftest words of critisism without rolling over and peeing. My self esteem was crap (thanks alot stupid person that owned me before) and I was freaked out even by the slightest noise. I didn't even like toys with squeakers because they scared me.

Now, I have it made in the shade. OK, I still can't walk very good on a leash and I did break Mom's right hand ring finger when I pulled away one day (at least I ran towards the door and not the road...puppy steps). I am still a little bit stubborn but hey - I am a 21 year old stud who has finally come out of his shell. I need to party it up a little.

Now things are better and my ego has been slowly built back up things are great. I love every toy that my Mom brings home...if it is a stuffed animal. I love running in the house first thing when she gets home and grabbing the first toy I can find. I have also started doing the "wild puppy run". I had always heard other pups barking about it and how much fun it could be but until I was more confident I just didn't have it in me. Now - whoo-eee!! The smile that it brings to my Mom's face is worth everything.

I am the easy going one of the family. I sleep at the foot of the bed - always with my body and face towards the door. Pixie thinks she is such a great watch dog but her head is under the covers when we sleep!! Yea, who see's things first?? Me!!

I love to fetch (ok sometimes I bring it back but like I mentioned above I am a studly 21 year old boy and there has to be a little resistance), I learned to sit on my hind legs and give that :o) I love you look, I can catch treats in the air and I am not a food whore like my sister. I take bits nice and slow from Mom's hand and she always praises me.

Well, I need to go and chew on Pixie's leg. I swear that it taste like steak and that is why I keep coming back.

Oh, if you read this please tell others to give us pound pups a chance. And, remember that it really does take a while (about 2 yrs.) for us to believe you and trust that you will not do us harm. So - tell them to have patience and we will reward them with a life time of love and of course kisses. I work on rewarding my Mom every day.

Woof!
