Arrival Story:
After much research and patience, we found Trixie to be the right dog for our family. It is amazing the journey to find a dog. I first learned of the Italian Greyhound breed in 1999 while watching a pet show. You know that one where the guy has all the various animals climbing on him and running around the set? The topic was about the best dog's for condo and apartment living. The IG was on the list. But until we had a home and not moving all over the country, it was not the idea time to bring a dog into the home. Finally we were settled, laid down roots, bought a condo and in 2005 (told you a patient journey to get a dog) we were ready to have our first dog. Of course I never stopped thinking about the Italian Greyhound dog. They remind me of a little deer and run like a Kentucky Derby race horse. We did lots of research on breeders, visits to their homes and such. Anyway we met a wonderful and responsible breeder, placed our name on the waiting list for the next litter as she only breeds once a year. The good news is that one of her puppies became available from a previous litter because the owner was moving and couldn't have a puppy at that point. Lucky for us. We had a great first visit with Trixie when she was 10 weeks old. We were able to bring her home a month later! What a joy a dog can be. I never thought it could be so. I grew up with dogs in our family, but the dog was always my sisters, or my brothers, etc. I did have a cat though. Later in college I came to find out all those colds were actually allergies to cats. Trixie is a true blessing. It is amazing no matter what mood you are in, Trixie is always happy to see us. My favorite thing Trixie does when I come home at lunch or at the end of the day is when she runs from her exercise pen to the couch, on her side for a belly rub! She wiggles and wiggles with a smile. Dogs do smile!

How Trixie got her name? It is in honor of our first family pet growing up. Plus it fits her personality of outgoing with a cute attitude.
