Arrival Story:
Ruby spent 3/4 of her life being bred nearly to death in a puppy mill. She was rescued by a local shelter but no one wanted to adopt her because of her age and some serious heath problems. My husband and I were looking to adopt a female dog to keep Gus company but the one we planned on adopting found a family before we could get there. It didn't matter though, because the second I saw her I was in love. I layed on the floor and scratched her ears (she was still way too skttish around humans for any closer contact without her shaking) and could tell she wanted to be loved so bad but was too scared to get too close. The attendant told us it was time for her to go out to the bathroom and let me take her. By the time we came back in my husband had the adoption papers signed and the checkbook out.
Three years later and I can't get her off my lap. Every time someone new comes in the house Ruby is the welcoming commitee. She kisses their hand then rolls over to show them that her belly could use a scratch. I think we loved the scared out of her.

She was my birthday present so we named her after my birthstone.
She occasionally gets gas bad enough to clear the room.
We call her The Thumper because every time she hears her name or her nickname (Bean) her tail thumps.
We call her Bean because she reminds me of a Muppet named Bean.
She knows how to pout.
