Arrival Story:
My biological clock was ticking and having no experience with the 2 legged children, I decided to check out the Afghan Hound Rescue website & inquire about adoption. There he was, the most adorable baby boy I had ever seen, just begging me to bring him home.
Bio:
Afghan Hounds have been part of my life for the past 25 years. Nikko has by far been my most challenging. Nikko & 3 of his littermates were rescued from a BYB here in CA. He was the most adorable pup I had seen in years & he just had to be mine!
After the first few weeks, I noticed that he was constantly whining at the ceiling or the wall or just laying there whining. After manyl trips to several specialists, he was diagnosed with Angular Limb Deformity. In a nut shell, just like with children, he was suffering from growing pains. However, his growth plates closed too soon causing his front feet to turn out and up at the same time, thus he is unable to sit upright for more than a few seconds. He spends most of his time lying down. Several orthopedic surgeons have reccommended surgery which may or may not leave him with arthritis & there is a risk that his health could be compromised in another capacity.
I have decided to treat him holistically for the time being and manage his pain with Glucosemine/Chrondrotion/MSM.
Thank Dog that he found his way into rescue. If someone had purchased him from this BYB & they found out he had all of these problems, most likely he would have been euthanized or on a brighter note, dumped in a shelter ;o(
I have to say, what Nikko lacks in genetics, he more than makes up for it in the entertainment department.

Boy am I tired today. My Pal Nikita invited me to Jerry's Birthday/Annifursary Pawty yesterday and boy did I have some fun. Nikita made me a Birthday hat to wear to the party, you can see it in my photoalbum. I was late to the Pawty cuz mom had a very hard time getting me ready to go, with alot of help from Nikita, I made it.
This was my first Pawty so I had a hard time keeping up with everyone. AND because I arrived late, I had alot of catching up to do. There was pizza to eat and Dogaritas to drink. I brought a Cat Pinata filled with Blue Dog cookies, boy did we have fun beating the cat silly to get the Blue Dog cookies ;o) Afterwards, I went for a little swim and visited with some of the cute girls.
It has been a very long time since I had been to a Pawty, and I just can't hang like I used to and you know what else? Ole Beauseafus (sp?) was right when he sings "Hangovers Last Longer Than They Used To".
Next time I think I will take it 'Slow & Easy"

Hello to all of my Pals in Arfdom- Long timey no writey. So, here's the latest & greatest goin on at rescue central.
Mom & I have been extra busy learnin how to make posty cards for the Fosterkidz. Yup, there are many that are still looking for their new foreverhomes. Us Arfgoons aren't, shall I say, uh, easy to re-home. While we is arfully good lookin, we are what your humans call High Maintenance. Not me though, I is real easy to get along with & I don't cause any trouble (hehehehehe). Well at least as far as Mom is concerned, I just blame it all on the fosterfuskidz.
Hey, guess what? I think I am finally getting the hang of workin this dogster stuff. I have some new pals, mom finally upgraded us to DogsterPlus (thus creating more work for herself), a guestbook & a few of my pals like Jerry & Poncho (you gotta check out their pages) have given me presents! I LOVE pesents and with all of the extra fosters, presents are few & far between. Thanks Guys!
I must run now, mom & I are off to a art & wine festival. We are taking the post cards to give out with information about our rescues. If you guys would like to read their story, goto www.afghanhoundrescue.org.
