Bio:
I am a pure breed Airedale, but my ears stand up (like a German Shepherds!). My Mom figures, God made me this way!! Taking her baskets is my favorite past-time, but she doesn't like teeth marks in her nice baskets, so she doesn't let me take them anymore! I also like to help my Mom carry the groceries in from the car. She has to find the light weight items that I can carry. I learned how to take and carry because I like to hang out with service dogs in training. Those guys have a really special mission- they're learning how to help people with disabilities. I'm waiting until I grown up a bit so I can be a therapy dog. Mom says I'll be able to go visit the nice people in nursing homes or maybe help a child who doesn't like to read. I think I can sit still so a little boy or girl can read to me - especially if they rub my neck!

Life as a Therapy Dog!

My sister's here!

Big news from this Airedale haven. We have three of a kind! Me, big sissy Cara and now, Maggie. Mom found her and she is living with us for now. Mom is trying to train Maggie to be a service dog, but I think she just wants to live here and have lots of fun. We play terrier tag and Molly in the Middle - you know - anything to pick on the little dog. Oh yeah, and making divets in the yard - terrier holes - got to make sure there's no critters in our space.
It's a bit crazy for Mom.

Sissy Maggie was born when I was and I just have not seen her in 4 years. She never lived inside, like I have with Mom, and so, she had to learn about all the sounds in the house like the telephone ringing and the dishwasher running and ice cubes dropping in the ice maker. But, she found out the ice cubes are really fun. Also, she has to learn not to go potty in the house. I don't like that. Maggie is trying, but she needs to tell Mom when she needs to go outside. I tell Mom when Maggie is doing something bad.... like chewing the pillows or taking a towel from the counter. Mom says she has to learn to take and hold things, but I think Mom means when she asks her to.

Mom has still been taking me on our outings. We now go and talk to all the new people who want to help and tell them what I do. I love it, cause I get to meet new people... and I love people.

Check my sissy Maggie out. She kind of looks like me, but one of her ears is not right. I mean, not like both of mine.

Another Azalea Parade

Wow - I keep telling Mom she is lazy and not helping me keep up my diary. It has been too long since I last wrote all my friends on Dogster! Well this past weekend I was in my second Azalea Festival Parade. The Azalea Festival is a really big deal where I live. We were one of the most popular teams. Nice people watching either called my name or Mom's and we got to visit with some of the people along the street. Then all Saturday and Sunday we did time at our booth and walked the festival. We're special because we are invited - well not just Mom and me - but all the others in our group. Most of the time pets are not allowed at the festival, but because we are therapy dogs we get to be there. I met some really nice kids - one little girl gave me nice hugs and kisses. OH, and on Sunday, Mom bought me 3 new hats. As soon as she gets new batteries in her camera I'll make her take a picture of me and post it. I must say I am very tired. Mom was told by one of the other doggie mom's that I am the reason she and her dog Katie became a therapy team. I guess the nice lady met us sometime last year and then knew she wanted to do this. Katie is really good - she does tricks. Maybe I'll let Mom teach me a new trick........

Learning to Read

Wow - Mom introduced me to a new part of therapy work! I went to the Library this past week and I started to learn to read. Well, actually, a nice little boy read to me and showed me the story pages, but I think I could learn to read. Mom says about 1/3 of the children today have problems reading and don't like to read out loud. So, we go and the kids read to me - see I don't care if they can't pronounce the word right - I just like the sound of their voice - just for me. It was fun and I hope I get to help a kid again - I might even learn how to read all by myself.
