Arrival Story: If there was ever a wrong way to go about acquiring a border collie, it was the way I got Sam!! He came from a farm at 13 weeks old ( they had originally said 8 weeks in their ad). When I went to see him, it was obvious that they couldn't have cared less about him. He was for sale for £50 and probably a result of an accidental mating. Sam was friendly from the word go, as well as curious. His mother on the other hand did not appear friendly, and her owner did not let go of her collar for the whole time I was there. Despite the alarm bells ringing...I took him. I certainly didn't want to leave him there. Although I wouldn't recommend getting a dog in this way, Sam has been the most wonderful dog I could wish for. Well balanced, happy with all other dogs and people...extremely well behaved ( we started training as soon as we could) and a very laid back dog ( until we see an agility course). I teach puppy training and Sam often comes with me... he is so tolerant of the little ones jumping on him etc. He is just fantastic, but I think I have been very, very lucky.

Bio: As Sam had come from a working background, I was always prepared for the fact that he would need lots of physical and mental exercise. I left it until he was two years old before we started agility training. He did his first show ( and mine!) 8 months later. He was fantastic...we came third out of 200+ dogs taking us out of that class and up a level ( scary!). I couldn't believe as we were both newbies.
We had such a lot of fun doing agility- and would have got better and better, I think, if I hadn't had to stop due to pregnancy realted illnesses that lasted even after I had my babies. Sam has since retired and lives a quiet life with us, pottering around, and going a little bit more deaf as time goes by. My agility resumed, but with my other dog Star.
