Arrival Story:
We adopted Roman as a gift to the family since we had lost both of our previous dogs to old age the year earlier.

Roman's birth name was Elvis, and then later changed Teddy by his second owners. After we adopted him, we found that Roman fit him perfectly due to his regal stature and his roaming ways. He used to roam on a 14 acre farm and would take off for days to hunt all kinds of wildlife including bears and cougars. He didn't adjust well to being confined and his owners decided give him up. Were glad they did because he's such a wonderful dog and companion and a great addition to our family.

Forums Motto:
Play hard, sleep hard.

Roaming Roman, the Coonhound that we love.

He is unique.............

Roman is unique, he has features that are remarkable, to the point that we rarely walk him anywhere without people asking us what kind of dog he is. But what is more unique is his personality. Roman has very expressionful eyes that move with his emotions, making him somehow able to communicate what's going on in that head of his. If only he had an eye movement for letting us know that he is wanting to run to Juanita Beach Park, we could intervene before the search begins. He has been a home-body more since he has learned that home is where the love and food is, so he has not had any episodes of unexpected departure for months.
Although he is a sturdy and muscular dog, he tends to think of himself as a lap dog that should be able to fit on any chair or lap around.

He is a lover, not a fighter............

Roman, has the hunt dog ability and mentality, however he just might get that coon up a tree and serenade it, rather than attack. We have NEVER seen a angry or mean bone in his body manifest itself as aggressiveness or intolerance. At the dog park, he can run with all the energy of a greyhound, or meander through the park smelling the flowers, it just depends on his mood for the day. He lets all dogs come up to him, sniff, play, and then move on, often times standing there in that regal pose that we love so much, and that makes the "ladies" swoon.

He is all "ON" or all "OFF".....

Roman has an energy level that took us some time to understand. When he is "ON", he is ripping around the backyard, low to the ground like he is on a racoon chase, then flying through the house leaving his trail of energy on the wood floors. But when dusk hits, and it is time for him to turn "OFF", it is a switch that cannot be flipped back on until dawn, no matter what the temptation. Sure, he hears a doorbell on a tv show, and he gets up to investigate the front door, but the snoring and dreaming is what its all about for him, at least 12 hours of the day or night. Roman loves being with other dogs, he has a no-worries attitude that blends very well with even the most uptight dogs.
