NOTE: Posted this here for people not on distribution
Mom:
Dad said I should write a weekly report and distribute it, even though I only had one full day at the office this week, and even though I have an online journal that people are supposed to check.
Personally, I think he is spending way too much time just sitting around thinking if he came up with that idea. (I'm pretty sure Dad is my boss and you're his boss, but I haven't seen an actual org chart. Is there one available?) Nonetheless, I am submitting this report, just in case he was serious, and just in case he is my boss.
To the other reviewers (on blind copy): FYI.
Kaitlin Renee ("Katie") Gilhooly - First Week Report
Last evening, prior to reporting to work, I went on a walk with Ripley, and then I spent some time with Flower. They are apparently the welcoming committee for new employees. Ripley was very nice, but looks vaguely familiar. Flower is a bit noisy at times, and a bit high-strung but I like her. She introduced me to her mom who is a nice enough lady, but didn't like it when I jumped up on her to say "Hello". I didn't really jump on her, I just put my front paws in her lap, so I could see her better, and she could see me. Maybe she's just shy. (Actually, I think she's Mom's boss, so maybe she just doesn't want to deal with the peons.)
My first full day at work was mainly spent acclimating myself in my new environment and doing administrative tasks. This is a nice place to work, but some of the rooms are rather small, and at times, it is very noisy. However, I think I will like it here.
Breakfast was pretty good, most of the food was very tasty, but there were some dry, crunchy bits intermixed with the chewy main dish. I have sent a note to the kitchen asking about their recipes and the hold time for prepared food. After that, I worked on all my administrative tasks as a new employee.
I was told I do not need a picture badge, although I was issued some tags yesterday. I put them on my necklace, since I don't have a pocket. I hope that is acceptable, and it is what Flower and Ripley did. I haven't seen a guard anywhere around here, so I'm not sure what purpose they serve.
I asked the webmaster to add me to the standard corporate websites, create my email accounts and update my Dogster page. He said this has all been completed.

According to the webmaster, my email addresses are active already. I was given my passwords, so I am just waiting for my personal computer to arrive so I can set them up. I will follow-up with the Computer Services department Monday if my computer has not been delivered. In the meantime, I will have one of the secretaries send this out for me.
Dad and Mom spend a lot of time in their private office. There are wires everywhere, and they aren't supposed to be chewed, apparently. I had an email sent to the OSHA coordinator, asking if the non-chewable items aren't supposed to be marked or perhaps color-coded.
At one point, Mom left to work on another project, so I sat in her chair, in case I was expected to cover the phones, but it is not a particularly comfortable chair. I could barely reach her keyboard from it, and if I leaned on the desk, the chair moved itself away. Besides, it turns when you try to settle down. I have requested a more stable chair for my use.
I don't want to complain, but I was actually expecting a private office for someone at my level, but I do realize that this is a start-up company, so I guess everyone is supposed to be "equal". I do have a private cubicle assigned, but it's at the other end of the complex and the door sticks, so I have to wait for someone to come get me for coffee and potty breaks. I have called maintenance and asked them to fix the door or just remove it. Frankly, it is annoying, especially since the walls aren't even solid, so it's not like there's any privacy anyway.
My first real assignment after all the administrivia was completed was gathering up all the toys that were scattered throughout the building and placing them in the Mom and Dad's office, so they would be more organized.
I also tested all of the toys I could find, and found them to be in reasonable working order. The squeakers all seem to be functional, for example. I have not decided on a favorite yet, so I just left them in a neatly organized half-circle around the office. I found this more artistic than a simple pile. Strangely, they all tasted a bit used. I have requested a completely new set of toys for my own use.
I found a round plastic chew toy that said "Nikon" on it, but apparently that's Dad's personal toy because he took it back pretty quickly. This is too bad, since it was the only fresh one.
Late this afternoon, Dad and Mom put up a climbing wall in the office doorway, but I don't like it. It took me a couple of tries to get over it, although I did finally get out of the office, and it generally just blocks the way. I have asked that the wall be removed so I can leave the office when I need to go check on any noises, or make copies. I heard Mom mutter something about "a taller baby gate", so I hope this is in regards to my request.
I believe all my current projects have been completed, athough they have not been reviewed. I will await next week's assignments, as well as feedback on my open requests.
Katie
