Go on. Admit it. I look really stupid in my woolly pyjamas, don't I? Still cute, though...

Leave a bone for Daisy (1999-2009)

Nicknames:
Pedigree Name: "Jarmane Sundance" (She was born during the week of the 1999 Solar Eclipse!)

Badges:
Rainbow Bridge
Quick Bio:
-purebred

Birthday:
August 13th 1999

Likes:
Sleeping, lying by the fire when it was cold, eating! Generally being comfortable with a full belly!

Pet-Peeves:
Daisy hated nail clippers!!! Also: hated fruit (but still begged for it, then abandoned it!) and hated it when I wriggled or turned over in bed, and disturbed her!

Favorite Toy:
Anything she wasn't supposed to play with - plant pots, bits of rubbish - she also tried to play with any mice or frogs she found in the garden!

Favorite Food:
Meaty treats, meat, cheese, pizza, cake, cookies - pretty much anything except fruit, vegetables or anything else that's healthy!

Favorite Walk:
Daisy was quite lazy, so she wasn't a big walkies fan, but she did like walking through the woods. Since being attacked, she didn't like meeting other dogs, and got really scared when other dogs came up to her, so she didn't like walks so much.

Best Tricks:
Tricks? What tricks? Daisy's number one priority was comfort - she wouldn't have dreamed of doing anything like tricks!

Arrival Story:
We decided we wanted a whippet, and were put in touch with a breeder. When we went to see the dogs in their kennel, one dog - Daisy - rushed up to me and licked me, while the other dogs were a bit nonchalant. Daisy was already 10 months old and had been returned to the breeder a couple of times because she was chewing a lot and had ruined her previous owner's carpet. (What did they expect from a puppy?) There was a rumour that she had been kept in a shed for punishment. Daisy had not been a popular choice with potential owners anyway, as her markings (fawn body, white head, neck, front and paws) were unusual and "undesirable" for showing. Anyway, as soon as I saw her - and she ran up to me - I knew we had to choose her! Yes, she chewed a lot as a youngster (she chewed right through the corner of our 2 inch thick kitchen work surface!) but she soon grew out of that, and I loved her so dearly - she was my angel!

Bio:
In 2001 we came to own Daisy's litter sister Clara, and apart from one fight, they were the best of friends. Then, in 2005, we decided to get a puppy, Byron, (another whippet.) This must have changed the pack dynamics somehow, and Daisy and Clara had several really aggressive fights (Clara was the aggressor - Daisy didn't really inflict any damage) which led to Daisy needing emergency veterinary treatment, and left her with facial scars. Sadly, we had to rehome the puppy after 7 weeks, and a friend of ours who already had 7 whippets kindly adopted Clara. (Clara is incredibly happy nowadays, so I don't regret my decision. Byron is also doing well, and is living with his litter sister in Scotland.) Now that Daisy was an "only dog" again, our relationship deepened to an incredible degree, and we truly were soul mates! The only negative thing was that since being attacked, Daisy was scared of other dogs, so she didn't like going for walks as much as she used to. I have since learned that aggression is much more likely between two related bitches, and it is usually triggered by a change to the pack hierarchy. I just wish I had known that years ago.
