being a cuddley little dog, sleeping, eating, car rides, and being loved on!
being on a leash, not going with my mom and dad and people who don't appreciate my cute factor
BALLS, BALLS, BALLS! ! ! (oh yeah, and my dad's socks)
anything my parents are eating that I can't have :(
off leash park anyone?
crawling (although I actually don't do this on purpose. I crawl around when I am being to lazy to walk. My dad says it looks like my back end is paralyzed!)
Mae was the cutest stray dog at Second Chance Animal Rescue. She came to SCARS at five months old with her sister, Mia. We met her at PetExpo Edmonton in January. She was the sweetest little thing. But when we went to walk her, I am pretty sure she dislocated my arm :). (She is much better now!) Despite her brute basset strength, we knew we needed her in our family. However, we were living in a place that didn't allow dogs. That didn't seem to matter because we fell in love immediately and adopted her anyways!!! Well, needless to say, even out landlord fell in love, and the rest is history. I don't know how we ever lived without her. (For those who are interested in adopting a cute dog like me you can check out www.scarscare.org )
Mae's breed is our best guess. Most vets think she is a beagle basset mix, which makes her our little bagle hound! She is definitely a hound dog thru and thru, never taking her nose from the ground on our walks . Because she was a stray, she does have some behavioural issues we are trying to deal with. She is getting better with strangers and pretty good off leash. She loves her doggie pals, and anyone who will give her treats! She was recently n the hospital for some type of doggy flu, so her diet is pretty restricted at this point. But being the little trooper she is, she pulled thru with flying colors. Mae is the cuddliest pup I know, and definitely the cutest.

This is my first Christmas in my house! I am already excited. Mom says that my two legged cousins are going to come from far away to visit me. They live in a place called China?? Anyways, I am very excited to meet my cousins. Mom says I have to learn to play more gently. Right now, I like to pounce in the air, which is pretty close to little girls faces. I guess people don't like that. So, I am trying SO hard to be a good girl now. But I am pretty temped to steal food from anything around my head height, again the same height as little girls. I hope they understand that I am still learning. I promised Mom I would try. I think they will love me. Who doesn’t?!
I am also really exited about Christmas decorations. I have never had a Christmas tree before and wow is it cool. There is this doll on top the tree (my mom says is an angel). I LOVE her. I want to play tug of war with her. When my mom and dog-mother, Kara, set up the tree tonight, I sat at the bottom of the tree whining for my angel. I LOVE her. But they would not give her to me. I think one day when my mom and dad are away, I am going to take a running leap, tackle the tree and take that angel off. She looks like a pretty good chew toy to me!

I can't believe they did it. They left me at a...gulp...KENNEL!!! They told me on Friday that I would only be there for a day (from Saturday until Sunday). A WHOLE DAY! ! ! I was so scared. I would not leave their side all day Friday, and did not want to get in the car on Saturday morning.
The ride there was a long and sad one. I cried and cried. I gave them my best Mae-Dog tears, but they are heartless and didn't turn the car around. I told them I PROMISED to be good at the wedding they were off to, but that didn't work either. I was panicked.
When we got there, we saw many dogs and a few REALY BIG dogs. (Mom says they are "horses".) They had to drag me kicking and screaming out of the car. And then, they left.
I was devastated.
I waited for what seemed like hours ( I think it was really only a few minutes) and then this lady came in to take me for my most favourite thing, A WALK!! (Maybe this place wasn't all bad after all). After our walk, they put me into a doggy camp. Well, that sealed the deal. This place was great.
There were a dozen dogs to play with. My favourites were Dashy, the Dashound, and Boxy, the Boxer. We played tag and smelled each other all day. I slept so good that night.
When my mom and dad came back on Sunday, I wasn’t quite sure if I wanted to leave. My mom looked a little sad that I didn't rush over to say hello, but I was still looking for my new friends.
But don't worry. I made a date with them for Christmas. I will be back for almost two weeks and so will some of my new friends.
So I guess I am a little thankful this Thanksgiving.
(And for you curios pups, the kennel was "Perfect Place Kennels” near Devon. http://www.perfectplacekennels.com/ )

This is more of a public service announcement than a journal entry. I just wanted all the rabbits, chipmunks and squirrels to be aware of the following: I do believe I am the best hound dog ever. I have had no formal training (no post secondary if you will) yet I have a remarkable instinct for tracking.
My mom and dad took me for a midnight stroll tonight, and let me tell you, I had those rabbits on the run.
I am a little manic when it come to tracking. I get as low to the ground as I can and I zig and I zag until I find just the right smell. My mom says I look insane. I slowly follow the smell and then…WHAM! I am of running, and chasing that poor rabbit on the other end.
My dad doesn’t let me off the leash (they don’t think I would come back when I am hunting) so he’s on the other end being dragged behind me. He loves it though!
I almost caught three rabbits tonight, but Dad held me back at the last minute. I think he would be very sad if I ever did catch anything, but he loves to watch me try.
But that song Elvis wrote for me is true, I ain’t never caught a rabbit, but I think I will some day very soon.
