Arrival Story:
We purchased her from a nearby family's litter of bloodhound puppies. They said she was just "pet quality" (as opposed to show quality) but that's good enough for us! :)

Bio:
Gypsy was named for the robot Gypsy on the TV show 'Mystery Science Theater 3000.' She had a rough life, with a torn ligament in her back leg, glaucoma that resulted in the removal of one eye, and gangrene that resulted in the removal of one toe. Gypsy spent most of her later years sleeping and playing gently with her favorite toys. Whenever we came home from going out somewhere, she brought us a toy as a welcome back present :) She also liked taking short walks and communing with our minature horses. Gypsy passed away near midnight on Martin Luther King, Jr., Day, January 15, 2007. We believe the cause was heart failure. She will always be loved and deeply missed.

Getting better

Amazingly, Gypsy is recovering. We think now that maybe her sickness was from a virus instead of her heart. It started yesterday when my dad got home from a week-long out of state trip, and she got up and went to greet him. Last night she ate her Deramax, then a few treats. Today she ate more treats and table scraps, and best of all, she played with Luv Pup! It's a miracle, but it looks like she's going to pull through.

Gypsy in intensive care

For those of you who pray, please say a quick prayer for Gypsy... she's in intensive care with fluid on her heart. She's had a host of medical problems (you can read about those in her profile) but this is more urgent than the others. A couple weeks ago she had to have laser surgery on her remaining eye for the second time, and she had just seemed to be recovering from that, when this came up. She was coughing a lot, and we took her to the vet and found out that she has fluid on her heart. He gave her some medicine and she seemed a lot better, but last night she started vomiting and just lying in the same place for hours. She also has bad kidneys so my mom took her to the vet today and they put her on an IV to give her fluids. My mom's going to pick her up after two bags of fluid are in. I'm in another town at grad school, so my mom has been having to keep me up to date over the phone, but I'm going home after class today. She adores Gypsy, so if anything happens to her, my mom will be devastated. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you!
