Atlas, my puppy, my best friend, the four-legged love of my life, the dog I never knew I wanted and now cannot imagine living without ..

Thank you - for loving me unconditionally, even when I do not deserve it; for reminding me to enjoy the simple things in life; for being my constant companion; for sharing my love of the outdoors; for your willingness to do anything and everything, as long as I am there; for making me smile and laugh; for just being you.

I do not know if I deserve you, but I will be a better person for having you in my life. And when I finally have to say goodbye, a piece of my heart will break.

3 Year Anniversary

3 years ago today, Atlas came home with me. I remember it like it was yesterday. He cried because he was missing his family and his brother Rowdy, who was his best buddy. His breeder and Rowdy were crying because they missed him. I was crying because he was crying. Half a day later, he was looking for me. We have been pretty much inseparable ever since. Getting him was absolutely the best thing I have ever done. He has given me unconditional love and devotion but asked for nothing in return (except the occasional belly rub).

Truth be told, I forgot about the anniversary until I looked at the calendar. I had grand plans of taking him for a trail run, to his favorite dog park, and to Petco for a rare bully stick, but since he is getting over a bout of kennel cough, none of those fun things materialized. Maybe this weekend ..
