Arrival Story: After dog-sitting for a coworker's Weimaraner, I realized that I was a dog-lover and loved Weims. I spent almost a year looking for a Weim of my own. When I finally found a breeder with puppies, I couldn't get one because I was sharing a house and the owner didn't want indoor dogs. Another coworker got one of the puppies so I got to dogsit occasionally. Then, I decided to move out into a house with a yard, and found out that one of the puppies had gone back to the breeder and she might let him go to the right owner (she was considering keeping him)! I went up to Eureka just to see him, since he was a show dog and I really just wanted a pet, and fell in love. He came home with me the next day.

3 years ago today, Atlas came home with me. I remember it like it was yesterday. He cried because he was missing his family and his brother Rowdy, who was his best buddy. His breeder and Rowdy were crying because they missed him. I was crying because he was crying. Half a day later, he was looking for me. We have been pretty much inseparable ever since. Getting him was absolutely the best thing I have ever done. He has given me unconditional love and devotion but asked for nothing in return (except the occasional belly rub).
Truth be told, I forgot about the anniversary until I looked at the calendar. I had grand plans of taking him for a trail run, to his favorite dog park, and to Petco for a rare bully stick, but since he is getting over a bout of kennel cough, none of those fun things materialized. Maybe this weekend ..
