Arrival Story:
Sammy is my first dog as an adult and my husband's first ever. In July of 2003 I was browsing the petfinder site with no intention of adopting and came across "sheila". I couldn't get her picture out of my mind for over a week, so I filled out an application, totally expecting for her to already be adopted, and found out at the end of the week that our application was accepted. She was being fostered in Ohio and the Rescue (located in West Yarmouth MA), could not transport her to Massachusetts until September. It was the longest 2 months of my life. We renamed her Sammy and we both cherish the fact that we now get to be with her every single day.

Sammy's breed, although not actually known, is extremely unique from any other dog I've ever seen. She is medium build, leggy with longish sable colored fur. Her fur is as soft as angora. Her tail is very fluffy and curled up on her back most of the time. When her tail is down, she looks very much like a wolf. She has the sweetest disposition. She "talks" when she yawns, and sometimes it sounds like she can say "hello". She enjoys walks, rides in the car, and trying to play with the cat (who unfortunately wants nothing to do with her). Sammy can make anyone smile. She loves to run. She definitely has patience, but would prefer to keep going all the time. She prefers to be outside, but willingly comes inside at the end of the day at bedtime or even during the day just to be with us. She loves the snow - not crazy about water but she'll carefully wade in a lake. She rarely barks (but will emit a high-pitched whine when she sees other dogs). She will play with other dogs but appears to be more interested in her surroundings than needing canine companionship. She's never been aggressive - always gentle. Sammy is crazy and beautiful and amazing, and everyone who sees her wants to meet her and anyone who meets her falls in love with her.
