Arrival Story: Two of our dogs went to Rainbow Bridge during the early months of 2006. That left our Miniature Dachshund, Penny Ann, very lonely and depressed. We saw an ad in the paper for puppies so we went to see them. Zelda was the last female that was available and she was just so sweet and beautiful! We knew that she would be a perfect little sister for Penny, so we brought her home and she did an absolutely wonderful job of cheering Penny up - not to mention Mom and Dad, too! ; )
Over the past few years we have learned alot about puppy mills and backyard breeders and in the future, if we decide to get any new additions to the family, we will definitely adopt from a shelter or rescue.
Bio: Zelda Marie is such 'a little lady' ! She is very sweet and gentle and tends to get pushed around by her younger fur siblings, Link and Teddi Sue.
Zelda is everybody's sweetheart. She's Momma's little Kissie Girl.
Forums Motto:
So, it's 1:41 a.m. and I wake Momma up. (If you ever want to wake up your momma, I suggest you give her a big, wet kiss right on her lips. It works like a charm!)
So, for about one one-hundredth of a second, Mom seems like she might be annoyed about something *scratches her head* but then she gets up, puts her slippers on and takes me outside to go potty.
Well, as soon as the door opens, the wind rushes in, blowing big, cold, wet raindrops all over Momma and me!
But, guess what?! I went right out the door and found a perfect spot and I went potty! And I didn't just pee, either! ;)
Usually if it's cold or rainy, or both, I prefer to use the rug inside the front door or sneak upstairs and go on the rug by the bathtub. Momma always gets so dramatic and puts on a big show like there's something wrong me doing that. *rolls eyes*
So, anyway, tonight I decided I'd go out and brave the weather!
Yes, Momma is very pawroud of me, I can tell! And, you know what? I'm even a little bit pawroud of myself!
Mwwwaaah! Zeldy ♥
**lifts her nose high in the air and prances off to go burrow under her huge pile of blankies on the couch**
First, let me thank all of you who have given Momma advice and expressed concern and well-wishes. It means alot to us.
I'm doing great! I'll let Momma explain.....
I called the vet this morning and wasn't real thrilled with the response I got, but then again, I took it to mean that Zelda's seizure isn't something that was cause for excessive alarm.
Basically, what I derived from the little that was said to me, was just about what Tanuk said.
The seizure was a small one. Thinking back to about a year and a half ago, I believe that Zelda did have one seizure prior to last night. I had taken her and the other dogs to a dog park - their first time- and Zelda pretty much acted the same way. We thought she just "fainted" because she was scared of all the big dogs running around her and it was also pretty chilly and damp out. Like last night, I picked her up and sat with her, cuddling her, and after a few minutes she was fine.
I'm counting more on what I'm hearing from you here than what the vet had to tell me, which was not much at all. What I interpreted him as telling me was that he would like me to pay for a visit for him to tell me that I should keep an eye on her and not to worry unless it happens frequently and seems to cause her harm.
Since she came out of the seizure so quickly and without medical aid, there doesn't seem to be a great concern or anything that can be done to "cure" it.
Unless she starts having seizures frequently and/or more severe ones, it seems as though this is something that just "is". If it does happen again, occasionally, we deal with it exactly as we did last night and the first time at the dog park.
We're going to hope it doesn't happen again. It was so scary! And we really feel for anyone who has to go through seeing their fur baby have a seizure. Thanks for being here for us, everyone. We appreciate your support. It's so nice to have friends who care. Hugs, D'Ann
