October 9, 2011 I lost my Shelby. I put her to bed Saturday night and awoke to find her gone.
Shelby was one of my best friends and I will miss her terribly. I love you Shelby.

Shelby went into kidney failure after eating something she should not have. We still are not sure what it could have been. She ate a rawhide after her dinner, and about an hour later she began throwing up. I believe it was the rawhide that set her off. Her kidneys were deteriated somewhat, and could not handle it. At any rate, none of my dogs get rawhides anymore.
Shelby continued to get sicker, so I ran her to my vet. They kept her during the day and flushed her system, sending her home for the evenings. They did this twice, and we were beginning to beleive she was not going to make it. They told me to get her to eat anything. I took some of her food to her, and she finally ate it that second night! We were so happy.
It has been about 2 months and Shelby is still going strong. I beleive my vet, Dr. Hoorte and his staff at , "Lakewood Veterinary Clinic" was totally responsible for saving my Shelby. They were great, and of course my Shelby worked them a little to. They told me even though she was so sick, she layed her head on the Dr.s shoulder, as if to say, "It's okay, I know you are trying to help."
