Arrival Story:
This fine dog was a ghost in the neighborhood. He ran around with a bunch of the larger dogs who had homes to go to at night. But if Bones was 40 pounds, he was lucky. You could see every bone in his body, his back left leg had been shot and one ear was half ripped off. Plus he had sores all over him. But I kept thinking there was a good dog in there. He was terrified of anyone. You couldn't look at him and talk to him or he'd take off. It took 2 months of feeding him before he'd let me touch him. The leg healed up, the ear healed up and the sores went away as he filled out. What a great dog he turned out to be. Of course, I had to call him something so I called him Bones and the neighborhood kids started calling him that too. And he answered to it right away. He's smart, brave, gentle and such a lover! And he loves his sissy Butterfly! I thought I was rescuing him but really he rescued me...he's my guardian angel.

I consulted an animal communicator and she said Bones belonged to a woman whose husband was abusive. He would beat them both. And to punish her, he's the one who shot Bones but Bones got away. He knew he was looking for me and would know me when he found me. And he did! Even though he was so afraid, he stayed close by till he was sure he could trust me. He's rather neruotic...afraid of anything new. But once you get him familiar with a new procedure or even a new dog, he adapts. When Bones looks at me, the love in his eyes is downright humbling. How could I ever have deserved a mighty heart like this one?!

Bones passed over the Rainbow Bridge July 29, 2007. We miss our guardian angel so much! He now rests under the magnolia tree next to JoJo. But his spirit is free. What a mighty heart he had. We love you, Bones!

My aching bones!

Feelin' my age these days. I musta hopped off the step wrong last weekend and something in my knee got all messed up! I just couldn't get up! Poor old Mom was behind me pushing and heaving and it started to rain! I ain't never been sick before...kinda scared I went stiff. But one mighty heave finally got me up the step and I hobbled into the house. Had to go to the vet...not my favorite place. Got a bunch of x-rays taken...was all new to me but they let Mom stay with me so I pretended not to be afraid. Got bullet fragments in my back right knee! I sure enough got shot all those years ago when she first found me. Got arthritis there now. So I've got medicine I have to take. Mom said she understood 'cause she's got to be careful with her knees too! I've been thinking about ways to be sneaky so I can catch killers and crackheads if they get in my yard! Can't run 'em down like I used to. But maybe I can pretend to be a nice guy and then put the bite on 'em when they get too close. Retire? Me? Never! Oh comes the UPS him do a dance!

We just finished watching White Christmas...Mom has to see it every Christmas Eve. Tradition. Or so she says. I don't care...I just love being with my mom and getting some attention. I got a new bed for Christmas! It's thick foam and I don't ever want to get up. 'Course, I gotta go outside to take care of business...and patrol for killers...but I just wanna come back in and sack out on my nice warm cushy bed! Ahhhhhhh...these bones ain't gettin' any younger! No more Greenies for me! Mom says they're dangerous...gettin' stuck in guys' stomachs and causing intestinal blockages, whatever those are. She gets upset enough when I toot...don't wanna get the runs or she'll have a stroke! Nah, just keep them raw turkey necks a'commin'! And some HealthyPetNet Porky Puffs...taste like bacon and sooooo good to munch on! I wonder if I'll have any in my stocking in the morning! OK...lemme turn around 3 or 4 times now before I flop down. Mmmmmm...Porky Puff sugarplums...mmmmmm (snort, snort)...the UPS man's lookin' pretty juicy....mmmmm....
