Arrival Story:
I have been wanting a dog for a long time. My girlfriend and I regularly check the websites for the Humane Society and a local rescue foundation, the Bytown Association for Rescued Kanines (BARK) as we prefered to adopt than get a dog from a breeder. We hadn't been intending on getting a puppy, but one day Barb saw two beautiful German Shepard / Black Lab puppies on the BARK site, Billie Jean and Echo. We called right away, and we were pretty nervous waiting for Nadine from BARK to get back to us, as we were sure the puppies would go quickly. While we didn't know we were so close to actually getting a dog we seriously discussed getting both puppies. When BARK got back to us Billie Jean had already been adopted and one family had gone to see Echo. We booked an appointment to go see Echo and fell in love instantly. She was friendly and loving, but so calm for a puppy. We decided almost instantly that we wanted her and the next day Barb went and brought her home! -Toby

Bio:
Echo is an 11 week-old German Shepard / Black Lab cross that we have only had for 2 days. She is already about 20 pounds and has giant feet - she's going to be a big dog. She is a little shy but still very curious and affectionate with people. She lived with two big dogs in her foster home and loves to play with other dogs. She is very quiet and almost never barks. She is well-behaved and is still learning to be house and crate-trained. She is still adjusting to her new home and the cat is still quite afraid of her.

Echo update

We've had Echo for two weeks now and she's settling in well. She's keeping us exercised as she gets long walks in the morning and the evening - a tired puppy is a good puppy. She loves going to the dog park and playing with other dogs, especially big dogs. She's still very well behaved but is showing some more puppy "naughtiness." She likes to bite when playing which is fine when she's playing with another puppy her own size, but we (and adult dogs and smaller puppies) don't appreciate it.

We started puppy kindergarten on Sunday (yes, they have puppy kindergarten) at Bytown Dog Obediance. I will admit that our sweet little puppy was the terror of the class, mostly because she just wanted to play with the other dogs. It's weird, she's such a mellow dog, but get her around other dogs and she's high-strung. She is doing very well with the tricks from class though.

We've been to the pet store a couple times and spent a rediculous amount of money. There are so many things to buy, but I think we have a moratorium on new toys - she has tonnes now.

This morning Echo jumped in the river and swam for the first time. Looks like the lab is coming out.

Terry Fox Run

We were registered to participate in the Terry Fox Run for cancer research, then we got Echo. We decided to take her on the run and she did the entire 10km! She visited with lots of little kids and didn't get scared of all the commotion. She didn't have time to register before the run, but if you want to pledge her and donate to a good cause, you can go here:
