My good buddy Gretta tagged me!

The rules to this game are to put in four of the following and then tag four other pups! So here goes:

Name four jobs that you've had.
1. Motion detector. I let mom know whenever something moves in the vicinity of our house.

2. Stuffie stretcher. I make sure that no toy goes without a good chiropractic adjustment. My patented method is the yank and shake!

3. Snooze button. On weekends I let mom sleep in for a few hours, but am sure to wake her up by 8am (don't want to miss breakfast!).

4. Bed warmer. I am sure to curl up in mom's spot on the bed for about an hour before bedtime. Then when she comes to bed, I shove over and her spot is nice and warm for her!

Four places you have lived.
1. With my fur-momma and littermates.
2. With mom in our current house.
3. I haven't lived anywhere else!
4. I haven't lived anywhere else!

Four places where you have been.
1. The furthest away from home I have been is to Edmonton, Alberta for a flyball tournament.
2. I go to Prince Albert, Saskatchewan often for rally-o trials.
3. I have been to Regina, Saskatchewan many many times for flyball tournaments, rally-o trials and seminars, and my therapy dog test.
4. One of my favorite places to go is Lloydminster, Saskatchewan for flyball. They put on a really good tournament :D

Four places you'd rather be.
1. A great big off leash park so that I can run and bark all I want!
2. Anywhere working or training with mom. I LOVE to work!
3. In the car. Love the car ... it always stops at fun places.
4. Out at our rally-o trainers house. She has a huge acreage and after training I get to go run around in her 9 acre back yard with all my rally-o buddies. So many gopher holes to sniff!

Friends I choose to play tag:

I got to be a friendly stranger!

So today the flyball team I used to run with (and the one that Romeo is now training with) hosted a Canine Good Neighbour test this morning. I already have my CGN, but since mom was helping to organize the test, I got to go along too. Since I am such a good boy, I got to be the "friendly strange dog" for the one portion where the dog being tested had to meet another dog on a walk. So for all of the dogs that signed up to be tested, I got to take part! It was really fun, I always like showing off my skills BOL

The best part was after the test when a few of the dogs all got let off their leashes and we got to have a big game of Chase and Bark in the test field! I haven't run that hard in a LONG time! My leg is getting pretty bad and mom thinks I'm starting to get arthritis so she tries to keep me from stressing it too much. But I was such a good boy and all the other dogs were having so much fun ... she couldn't bare to leave me tied up and out of the fun. After all, a dog's just gotta run! What fun would life be if I never got to run again? So I'm really tired now and my leg is achy, but it was totally worth it :D

Phew, I'm one busy pup! I got tagged yesterday and then tagged again this morning before I had a chance to tag someone else! First by River then by Rondo! EEP! So here goes nothing!

Here are the rules of the game!

Each player starts with seven random facts about themselves. Dogs who are tagged, need to post in their Diary the rules & their 7 pawsome facts. Then choose 7 dogs to tag and list their names. Don’t forget to bark them a pmail that they have been tagged and to read your Diary, or, send them a fun Rosette announcing they've been Tagged!

7 Fun Facts about Gio

1. My full name is Giovanni, named by my mom's best friend back in the day after she went on a trip with him to Italy

2. I'm a sucker for a bum scratch

3. I belong in Ravenclaw! For those of you who know what that means and want to get sorted, join our Dogster group The Whomping Willow and embrace your destiny!

4. I'm a real momma's boy

5. Tennis balls make me CRAY-ZAY!

6. I really hate being groomed, but will do it just so I can get a cookie afterwards

7. Even though I pretend not to like him, I really do love my little brother. Mom even caught us cuddling last night at the foot of the bed.

I'm going to Tag

1. Bailey

2. Alex

3. Snooper

4. Duchess

5. Floyd

6. Storm

7. Helix

I was on TV!

So it's been a really long time since I have written a diary entry. Mom has been super busy ... too busy to help me type. But my little brother is sleeping now (oh .. yeah ... I have a new little brother. He's pretty cool, but is always steeling my toys and trying to get me to play with him.) so I convinced mom to help me write this out and tell you all about my new STARDOM!

That's right ... I was on TV last week! Mom got a phone call from the people in Regina that are organizing my therapy dog work. They said that a local TV station wanted to do a segment on therapy dogs and they wanted me and mom to go participate! I hadn't done any therapy dog visitations yet (that will hopefully be starting in June), but mom and I got all dressed up in our uniforms and went to a local care home. I got to meet so many nice people, they all patted me and scratched my bum and told me how handsome I am. Then a man with a TV camera showed up and started filming me! My therapy dog buddy, Gina, was there, too. She's a super cute black miniature Poodle. All the cute little old ladies wanted to hold her, so I got to make the rounds and meet all the nice old men. They all liked me a lot, said I reminded them of dogs they had when they were younger. I did some tricks and showed off some for them. Then the TV camera guy asked mom some questions about why she started me in therapy dog work. She thought she sounded like an idiot and talked in circles, but they were able to edit it in the end and make her sound at least semi-intelligent BOL

They were supposed to let us know when we would be on TV, but mom never heard back from them. We were flipping through channels the other day when WHAM there was my handsome face on TV!! The segment was only a few minutes long, but it was really good ... mostly because they showed me on there A LOT! Mom was so proud! She told everyone that I was on TV and when they should watch to see the repeats BOL

My Special Birthday

Today was my birthday! I'm now 5 whole years old!

Mom had to work as usual, but after work she came home and we played some. Then we went to pick up my grandma (she's my second favorite person in the whole world!). Grandma took us out for supper and then we went to PetSmart where she bought me TWO new toys! A plastic squeaky football and a plush squeaky ... err ... thing. And guess who I met at PetSmart?? SUSHI!!!

We were just leaving and I was pulling mom out the door. She was mad that I was pulling and said, "Gio would you quit it!" This lady with a puppy were standing at the door and she said, "GIO?! From Dogster? This is Sushi!" We went outside and got a good sniff and greet while mom and Sushi's mom chatted for a second. Sushi sure is a nice pup!

Then on the way home, we stopped at Dairy Queen and grandma got me a little bowl of ice cream all for myself! It was soooo good! And now, I just got finished my dinner of lamb shank. Mmm mmm mmm that is a special treat!

So needless to say, I'm very tired! I think it is time for a nap now that I'm finished being the birthday boy :D

Woof! Am I ever POOPED!

Today's rally class was super fun. I may not have done so hot during the actual practice, but while all the moms were cleaning up afterwards they let us pups run around and play!

I made a new friend during our play-date :D His name is Laddie and he is a goofy tri-colored Border Collie. I had met Laddie before, but we never really got a chance to play until today. Turns out he LOVES chasing as much as I LOVE being chased! It was a perfect match :D Mom let me have a tennis ball and I ran round and round and round while Laddie chased after me. So much fun! I LOVE chase games!

Oh, and I can't forget about my other buddies that were there playing, too. Alex and Brewster and Bailey all helped out making some noise and playing with our tennis ball. In the end, Bailey ended up stealing the ball and not sharing, so we all decided that the games were over and chilled out for a few minutes.

PHEW! That was a lot of running and barking. I'm completely pooped out. Definitely time for a nap. :)

I'm a Good Neighbor!

I just got back from being tested for my Canine Good Neighbor (CGN) and passed! It is a test put on by the Canadian Kennel Club and is very similar to the Canine Good Citizen (CGC) offered by the American Kennel Club.

I did all the tests very well. Even the leave-in-isolation part, that mom was really worried about. I sure proved her wrong and handled it like a pro!

My buddy Gina, from Rally-O, passed the test as well. And I got to meet lots of new doggie pals, got to sniff and visit between tests, and had a whole lot of fun :D

Chicken Thighs?!

Oooh I'm so excited! Mom came home from work today and said she ordered me some special food and it will be ready on Thursday!

Mom is a graduate student in an Agriculture college that has an on-campus farm. It has dairy cattle, beef cattle, pigs, aquaculture, fish, and sheep. It is a functioning farm, but all of the animals are used for research. Mostly it is reproduction, growth and nutrition work where the animals are fed different foods, under different conditions to see how it affects their production.

Anyways, every few months there is a big kill day in the poultry barn where all the current research chickens are killed to make room for new chickens for new research. The chickens are all healthy and safe to eat because they are only used for nutrition or environment research, but because they are technically research animals, they can't be sent for slaughter to be sold for human consumption. So all of these chickens would have to be killed and then discarded. That is a horrible waste ... So they offer the chicken meat for sale to graduate students and faculty of the Agriculture college for less than half the price that it would sell for in stores!

Mom put in a request for 4 kg (almost 9 lb) of whole chicken thighs ... and they are ALL FOR ME!

I'm so excited for my Thursday dinner!!

I'm a Therapy Dog Now!!

I passed my test today for St. John Ambulance's Therapy Dog Program!!

Mom is so proud of me, I did everything fantastically! I think I'm going to like this job, not only do I get treats and time with mom, but everyone loves on me! I got so many pats and scratches today, I didn't think my tail was ever gonna stop wagging!

The test wasn't too hard, but it was very thorough. It started with mom and me along with 5 other dogs and their handlers and a bunch of extra people all sitting in a big room. One at a time, all of us dogs had to go through a number of tests. It started with greeting the evaluator, where I had to sit nice and be petted by the lady that was holding the test. She grabbed my ears and nose, my feet and tail, and patted me all over. Then I had to walk with mom through a crowd of other people all moving around with walkers, canes, and crutches. I had to show that I knew how to heel and follow mom wherever she went without her pulling on my leash. Then I got to walk along a long line of people and let them all pet me one at a time. Some would go right for my head, some would pat me very roughly, some would scratch, and some would talk in funny loud voices. Hey, it didn't matter to me as long as I got some attention! BOL They also tested how I would respond to a person in a ball cap all slumped over in a wheelchair as if they were asleep or sick. I had to approach them and be very slow and polite while mom asked if they wanted to pet me. Then I got to play with mom and get all excited, and they judged how I was able to calm down afterwards. Then, the trickiest part for me, was maneuvering around while a lady in a wheelchair came towards me and veered all around me trying to get in position to pet me. Once she stopped rolling around, I had to go and sit nice and close to the wheelchair (but not close enough to get my tail pinched) so she could pet me. I think I won her over when I laid my head on her lap! BOL The final portion of the test was someone running and stomping really close behind me and then dropping a large metal bowl. I wasn't scared at all! Just sat there looking for more pats! I guess I'm just a pat-o-holic! BOL

Anyways, now mom and I just have to wait for a few weeks while the office people go through mom's character references and make sure her criminal record check pans out. Then we will get to go on some mentored visits to REAL nursing homes with REAL nice old people to love on me! I will have 3 or 4 mentored visits so mom and I learn the ropes and then we will be on our own. And at that point mom gets her t-shirt and I get my fancy Therapy Dog bandana :D

They took some pictures today at the test and said they would send copies to mom, so when those come through I will have to post some on here.

But now I am bushed! It's hard work being cute and polite all day! BOL

Dr. Magic-Hands Strikes Again!

My back has been bugging me lately again. Mom caught me favoring my hind leg the other day when I was playing with my basket ball, and during rally-o practice for a while I sometimes act reluctant or fidgety to sit and do nice sharp pivots. And last night mom and I were training and she was trying to teach me how to "Be a snob" where I hold my nose in the air and look away. I would only look in one direction and mom noticed that I couldn't turn my head very far to the left.

So mom made an appointment for me with Dr. Magic-Hands today! He's so nice, talks all sweet to me and gives me kisses and bum scritches. The popper thing still kinda scares me, but he goes really quick and in no time at all I'm feeling all better again!

This time he popped by back in a few spots, mostly where my ribs end, and once lower down by my hips. Then he checked out my neck and popped a few places in there, too. It hurts a little bit and the popper makes some funny noises, but I feel so much better afterwards I just wanna give everyone kisses!! I gave Dr. Magic-Hands kisses, I gave the receptionist kisses, I woulda given anybody kisses I felt so good! I wiggled all the way back to the car :D

And tomorrow, mom says I get to go out to Martensville and see Dr. W again! He's funny ... and even though he thinks I'm a Border Collie, I still like him. He gives good scratches and cookies. And the good thing, is this time I don't need to be poked or prodded or get nasty eye drops. Mom just needs him to fill out a form for me to go get tested to be a Therapy Dog with St. John Ambulance! She got a form today that she needs Dr. W to fill out by Saturday ... talk about short notice! We were lucky that he had an appointment available tomorrow morning. Mom and I are planning on leaving for Regina in the afternoon tomorrow, so there isn't much time for error!

I'm getting pretty nervous about my Therapy Dog test. Mom and I were practicing our heeling at PetSmart tonight. I did reasonably well, but still got distracted and wanted to sniff the dog food bags when we walked by. Mom doesn't think I have to be perfect in the test ... just as long as I don't get scared or nervous with all the distractions. I think mom is more nervous than I am, honestly BOL But she won't admit that!
