Heading West!

I am on a 30 day trip out West. I saw the Zion Nat'l Park today in Utah and took a swim in a small river. I'm now on my way to check out the sandy beaches of San Diego. I am really far from home right now. I'll have some photos on all my web pages soon. www.chickus.com

Rufus to appear in Times Square.

Starting on June 19th, Rufus Chickus Magnetus will be featured on one of the digital displays in Times Square, New York.

I won a cool night-light with my photo on it.

I turned 2 years old this month and received tons of email messages and comments on Dogster.com and MySpace.com. Thank you for all your wishes! I was fed great food on that day - steak scraps, hamburger and my favorite, BEER! We spent lots of the weekend at the Art Center for the Broad Ripple Art Fair and friends snuck me cups of more beer! I woke up my parents Sunday morning with a huge beer burb in their faces. BOL (bark out loud)

What's coming up?
I was recently elected to be the official macot for Walk a Hound, Lose a Pound. I'll be at their first grand opening event in June. Go to http://www.walkAhound.org for more information and to sign up for notification of all their Indianapolis events. You will be able to meet me, get a 5x7 photo for a $1-$9 donation or an 8x10 photo for donations over $10. If you want to walk me during the event, more information will be available soon about how you can place a bid on that opportunity. All proceeds will be 401c3 tax deductible to Walk a Hound, Lose a Pound, Inc.

I recently entered a new contest to be in a commercial for Circuit City as the Firedog. The best thing about this contest is the prize! If I win first, $50,000 or more will be donated to a Humane Society of my choice.

1. My legs have always been WAY too short.
2. I hate shiney instruments - nail trimmers, combs, Dr. tools - etc.
3. I don't pack with other dogs much - just with people.
4. I love to go to the post office and tear up all the junk mail my family gets there.
5. I love to steal from bags and purses. Don't leave bag on my floor.
6. I love a cup of milk before I go to bed. Dad always gets some for me.
7. I watch movies with the family and sometimes bark at the actors if they look mean.

Traveled a few hundred miles to help out in Boone, N.C.

I was on the MTN TV news to promote my appearance in Boone, N.C. during the weekend of August 18th to benefit "High Country Friends for Life".

If one donated, they received a "pawtographed" 8 by 10 color photo of me. I also snored by Bass Lake watching the wild ducklings that week while mom and pops did some fishing.

High Country Friends for Life is a network of volunteers that take dogs and cats abandoned at Animal Control, foster them, and then get them adopted through Petfinder.com and weekly Saturday Pet Fairs (11 am - 5 pm) at Lowes Hardware in Boone, NC. They desperately need donations to cover their veteranary costs. Many of the dogs and cats they help are in very poor health.
They are an approved non profit tax deductable organization.

1 year anniversary.

The Clinton County Humane Society Party

I'll be making a personal appearance on Friday July 20th from 5 to 6 PM to benefit the Clinton County Humane Society. During my visit I'll be donating a few items that I won in some online contests.
This event is special celebration of my 1 year anniversary of adoption from the CCHS on July 20th, 2006. For donations, attendees chose either a "pawtographed" mini poster of me or a personal photo of you with me. Cake and ice cream will be served and adoptable pets can also be seen while you celebrate. I hope to see some of you you there!

Early 2:30 am rampage.

Oh Boy - Did I have fun early Tuesday morning.
One of my human bros slept over so he could be close to the airport for a 7 am flight to Vegas. We went to bed at 12:05 am.
I snuck into his room at 2:30 am and started licking his arm and then his face. He woke up FAST! He is not very accepting of wet face licks.
When he tried to get me out of the room, I grabbed one of his socks - stopped - and just stared at him. I ran out of the room and he chased me yelling "Give it to me!" We went around and around the coffee table until he found my treats. I dropped the sock, he gave me what I wanted and we both went back to bed.
When he woke up at 4:30 am to leave and catch the plane, my Pops was told about the early morning rampage. Pops just smiled, patted my head and took my bro to the airport.

Big Weekend on June 19th.

This weekend it'll be my 1st birthday!
I guess that means I am no longer a puppy - even though I still feel like one.
It is supposed to be nice all weekend and I'm looking forward to playing with all my friends at the playground and dog park.
Not sure how to blow out candles though but I'll try! BOL!

My trip to the NBC Today Show on Saturday Feb. 24th

I was SO busy getting ready for my first long trip.
I had to go to the Vet, get a special cage and then catch a a flight on Friday after being notified officially Thursday night.
I just got back at about 9 pm Sunday night 2-25-07.
We almost hit the big Mid West storm from NYC to Indy. The return flight was able to jump over the bad weather.
I slept in between my Dad's feet on two of the four legs of the Midwest Airlines "pet-friendly" flight. They were REALLY nice to fly with.

Hard day at the vet's office.

Everyone is telling me that I'll be in bed resting this weekend.
I went to vet to be neutered today.
I'm not sure what that really means, something about "ball games".
I don't remember much and I'm still in a DaAzzz.
I guess I'll be worn out from all the fun I "think" I had!

What a day!

Today I was the "Dog of the Day". My parents wouldn't leave me alone today! I was having a hard time getting in my normal snores. Mom and Dad were overwhelmed with all the nice comments and rosettes and I was really happy to make about 150 new pals! [woof!]. How I was found...

My daddy found me on the Internet after mom and dad lost their beagle of 13 years early in 2006. Mommy looked for beagles at first and daddy wanted to wait a year or so. When daddy searched the Internet to show his nieces some cute dogs, HE FOUND ME!!! He thought I was the cutest dog he ever did see.

I was actually listed as a Beagle/Shar-Pei mix. They both wanted a small beagle-like dog and BOY did I surpirze them! I am a Shar-pei/Golden Retriever mutt instead. I will probably get MUCH bigger than what they were expecting.

They can't take me anywhere with them. All the ladies LOVE me and stop to talk about me and pet me. That's why daddy named me Rufus "Chickus Magnetus" - (Chick Magnet). He tried to explain it to me but I still don't understand what daddy is talking about. He says I am too young and just a dog so I may never understand what it means.
