I searched for many weeks at all the local animal shelters for just the right dog. When I saw Abby...I knew she was the one. She was laying down in the corner of her cage very calm in the midst of a barking storm. When my husband and I got to meet her in a private room...she came over to me and nuzzled her head against my leg. That did us both in and won our hearts forever. She was two years old at the time.
Abby has been a true joy in our lives and makes us laugh every day. She is a sweet, old soul...with the most beautiful, all knowing eyes. Unfortunately, Abby has had lots of physical problems to endure. She's had two back leg surgeries and recently had surgery to remove her spleen and gall bladder. She was also just diagnosed with Cushing's disease. Abby never complains though and has taught us so much about love and patience and kindness. We would do anything for her and hope that with treatment...she will be able to live the rest of her years healthy and pain-free. She's our miracle girl.
I used to be a stray...but now I'm a happy girl. I was

Abby Louise is in the hospital today. She's up at Colorado State University Vet Hospital in critical care. Last Thursday, she became very ill, couldn't stand or walk and was in pain. She had just started her Cushing's drug treatment (Lysodren/prednisone) about six days earlier and we suspect she had a toxic reaction to the medication. I feel so badly for Abby. She has been through so much the past few months being in and out of hospitals and the Vet. We think she will recover from this though and will be bringing her home tomorrow. I got to sit on the grass outside with her today at the hospital. It was a precious moment of watching her bask in the sunshine with a smile on her face. We were so content to just be with each other for a few brief moments. She healed ME in my worry and upset that's for sure. Please keep Abby in your thoughts. She is such a sweet, precious girl and she deserves to be happy and healthy like every dog does.
