Arrival Story:
I PULLED GAGE FROM THE ZANESVILLE ANIMAL SHELTER FOR A RESCUE, HE WAS PLACED IN A FOSTER-TO-ADOPT. I GOT A CALL ABOUT 3 WEEKS LATER THAT GAGE HAD BROKEN THE BALL ON HIS REAR RIGHT LEG THAT ATTACHES TO HIS HIP(NO LEGITIMATE EXPLANATION OF HOW THIS HAPPENED WAS EVER GIVEN!)...HIS FOSTER FAMILY SAID THEY COULD NOT TAKE HIM FOR A CONSULT AT MED VET BECAUSE THEY WERE GOING TO THE ZOO....SO I VOLUNTEERED TO TAKE HIM SO WE COULD KEEP HIM FROM BEING IN PAIN ANY LONGER AND SO THE BREAK COULD BE FIXED BEFORE IT STARTED TO HEAL. I DECIDED AFTER SPENDING ALL DAY WITH GAGE AT MED VET THAT HIS FOSTER FAMILY WAS NOT A GOOD PLACE FOR HIM AND I DECIDED TO ADOPT HIM MYSELF!*****GAGE WAS HUMANELY EUTHANIZED ON JANUARY 23rd 2008 after seriously injuring my husband-the vet believes he had a brain lesion that contributed to he unpredictable behavior that has progressed over the years-We are glad that we could give him 5 very good years here with us!

Bio:
GAGE IS VERY TIMID AND SCARED OF ALMOST EVERYTHING IT HAS TAKEN 2 YEARS FOR HIM TO FINALLY BE COMFORTABLE WITH PEOPLE, UNFORTUNATELY HE DID NOT EXIBIT THIS BEHAVIOR WHEN I FIRST RESCUED HIM, IT WAS ONLY AFTER HE SUFFERED THE TRAMA TO HIS LEG, BUT HE IS GETTING BETTER AS TIME GOES BY AND HE LOVES HIS FAMILY VERY MUCH!**************Looking for a Doberman and live in Ohio, Northern Kentucky, Northwest Pennsylvania and some parts of Indiana and West Virginia? THE TRUTH ABOUT ALBINOS.....The albino trait produces many deleterious changes besides just pale fur. All albinos have changes in their eyes and optic nerves related to their albinism. At least some types of albinism are known to cause several types of behavioral changes, as well as decreased intelligence. For instance, albinos of some species may be excessively emotional, or slow to learn new tasks, or especially fearful, or have a multitude of other behavioral problems. The albinistic syndrome may be accompanied by a wide range of health problems. Some types of albinism affect the immune system, liver, or clotting ability, and others may cause other physiological abnormalities such as defects of the kidneys or thymus, anemia, inner ear defects, megacolon, neurological abnormalities, skeletal defects, microphthalmia, osteopetrosis, spina bifida, and sterility, just to name a few. Albinism in general predisposes animals to skin cancer as well as photosensitivity/photophobia. In some species, some types of albinism are even lethal! So it is easy to see that albinism is NOT just a matter of pigment, it's a deleterious mutation which affects the whole body. http://whitedobes.doberinfo.com/

A POEM TO MY FOSTER DOG..... I am the bridge between what was and what can be. I am the pathway to a new life. I am made of mush, because my heart melted when I saw you, matted and sore, limping, depressed, lonely, unwanted, afraid to love. For one little time you are mine. I will feed you with my own hand I will love you with my whole heart I will make you whole. I am made of steel. Because when the time comes, when you are well, and sleek, when your eyes shine, and your tail wags with joy then comes the hard part. I will let you go--not without a tear, but without a regret. For you are safe forever-- a new dog needs me now. by Diane Morgan

DOGS ARE DOMESTICATED ANIMALS THEY BELONG INSIDE THE HOUSE...IF you don't want a dog in your house then DON"T get one!!!!!!

What is A Reputable Breeder ????????? 1. Has a litter once every 2-3+ years 2. ONLY breeds to maintain the integrity of the breed 3. DOES NOT breed dogs under the age of 2 4. Has all breeding dogs screened for breed specific medical conditions 5. Spays and neuters ALL puppies PRIOR to placement 6. Screens all homes carefully to ensue that the puppies are going to good homes 7. Stays in touch with all families that purchase one of their puppies 8. ALWAYS takes back any of their dogs that the owners cannot keep 9. Supports rescues that help their specific breed. *******Sadly MOST breeders are NOT Reputable…..Opt to Adopt!

Dear Irresponsible Breeder : I put your puppy to sleep today. He wasn't a puppy anymore, of course. But he was the last time you saw him at eight weeks of age, or seven, or six, or ? just how young was he when you sent him out into the world? You remember him, don't you? He was probably the strong nurser, the pup who dominated his littermates, the one who took charge of the food dish, who barked first, who growled first. He was a cute, assertive puppy then. You remember, don't you? Some three years later he came to me, a big, strong, adult. Through how many hands did he pass before he came here? I wonder. Did you stay in touch with the people who paid you for the cute puppy? Did you tell them how to feed and care for him? Did you tell them to be sure to socialize him well? Did your contract (you did have one, didn't you?) specify that you be contacted if his first family couldn't keep him any longer? Were they able to ask your advice when they couldn't house break him quickly? When he chewed up a shoe? When they decided it was easier to put him in the back yard and ignore him? Were you there to help when they moved and couldn't take him along? When he was shuffled from place to place? When no one wanted him because he'd never been trained, because he had no manners, because he had never bonded with humans? Did his sire and dam also have a high prey drive? Were they temperament tested? Have either of them ever turned on a human? How many other puppies did you send into the world? Do you know where they are? How they are? I thought you would want to know how this puppy turned out. He could have been a loved and loving family member. He could have earned obedience titles. He could have excelled in agility. He could have been a kind therapy dog. He could have enjoyed the comfort of a loving master at the end of long and happy life. But, I put him to sleep today, at a little over three years of age. No, he wasn't sick or hurt or old. He could not be trusted. He would have hurt someone. Even someone who wanted to help him, wanted to find him a forever home. And the saddest part of all is that he didn't care. He didn't even know that I cared. It was just another place to be sent. Your pup of long ago is fine now. He romps happily someplace where there is only love. Don't give him another thought. I'll think of him, day after day. I'll cry for him. After all, it was I who put your puppy to sleep today. Sincerely, Bonnie Blink A Heart-Broken Rescue Volunteer
