Arrival Story: I have now been involved in canine search and rescue for 10 years. my last german shepherd, Kiera, passed away during our involvement in the Elizabeth Smart search. It was very sudden and very unexpected. She had a hemangiosarcoma in her liver that ruptured and she bled internally. After 7 hours at the vet, bagging her while the vet did compressions, I didn't come home with her. I was very sad and thought it would be a while until I was ready to get another shepherd. After a few days of coming home to a quiet house, I realized I needed to find another friend to love. I spent days looking a various shepherd and animal rescue web sites and finally cam across Kendra at an animal rescue in Oklahoma. She was 14 weeks old. Her mom had died after being hit by a car and the family had neglected the puppies. By the time the puppies were picked up by a shelter, they were so malnourished that only 3 of the 7 survived. Kendra was one of the lucky ones. I was flying to Dallas for a conference and made arrangements (with the help of my best friend from college who was also at the conference) to drive up to Oklahoma to meet Kendra. I fell in love with her instantly.
Bio: Kendra is currently being trained as a search dog and will be tested this summer.
