Arrival Story:
Cliffie is a half brother to Vy and Hobbs. The other 3 puppies in his litter were perfect, but he was what we breeders call, "a nightmare puppy." Born with: a Hare Lip, Cleft Pallate , and Wry Jaw. Everyrthing else was normal, and healthy thank God. He refused to die at birth, so I did the only thing that I could, syringe feed him and pray for the poor little mouse. He nearly died several times, but never gave up, and neither did I. He was so frail when he was a little Bean that I couldn`t bring myself to dock his tail either. I syringe fed him till he was 3 1/2 months old and ate solid slightly moistened dry kitten food. It was small enough for him to swallow whole, and too big to get stuck in his hole. At 4 1/2 months old he had his first oral surgery. And a total of 5 more over a 7 month period, because he wouldn`t leave his stitches in. These surgeries included removing both of his left canine teeth, so his tongue hangs out now and then. During each recovery period I had to syringe feed him till his mouth was healed. Now he still has a small hole in his Pallate, and he`s a little crooked, but he`s fat, sassy, and very happy. I just need to keep the hair along his lip trimmed up short to keep it out of his hole, but he`s very good when I do. This spring he even maxed out at 14 +pounds,(his good weight is 12 tops.) If he doesn`t chew anything really stupid, he doesn`t have any problems with his hole either. He does have very mild seizures once in a while, from the medications he was on as a baby, but not often. He`s a very lucky little dog and I`m a very lucky little person to have him!! No one knows what the future will hold for my little man, but he`ll be my Little Fat Ratfink forever, and I love him!
