Likes: Well, my name is Camper, so guess what is my favorite thing! In addition, I like to be rubbed and enjoy car rides.

Pet-Peeves: Rain, her 2 puppies at times (they are 12 years old!)

Favorite Toy: Plastic water bottles

Favorite Food: Old Roy Peanut butter treats and fresh pine bark.

Favorite Walk: Around the perimeter of the backyard--she is on the lookout at all times for wild giraffes that might get in her backyard.

Best Tricks: She is Queen of the Backyard, she doesn't do tricks.

Arrival Story: My 3 children and I went to the animal shelter in 1994 to adopt a dog. She was brought out and and shown to us. We all bonded right away with her. The animal shelter worker told us a man had found her wandering in a campsite the previous weekend, and there were no other campers there that she could have belonged to. He brought her home, but had several dogs of his own, so he had to take her to the animal shelter. That was on a Monday and we adopted her that Friday. Because of where she had been found, and the fact that we knew she would be going camping with us on a regular basis, the name choice was obvious! She has the most lovable disposition. We have had her more than 12 years now.

Bio: As luck would have it, Camper was pregnant when we adopted her. She later had 6 puppies. We found good homes for 4 of them. We still have 2 of them and refer to them, at age 12, as the "Puppies." Their names are Abe and Loxy and they are important members of the family, too. Their dogster page is in the works!

Forums Motto: Does anyone have fresh pine bark? Woof!

Later this evening I am going to Rainbow Bridge. My mom is crying really badly, but it is the right thing. I will miss her, but I look so forward to seeing Bucko, Henry and Fred. I wonder if Bucko still has bad breath and buries her bones on TOP of the carpet? I wonder if Henry still likes to lay in a recliner and has silky fur. Does Fred still eat the pond fishes' food and blow bubbles in the water as he gets each piece?
I have had much fortune in my life. First, the wonderful man who found me at a campground and realized I was homeless. He took the time and effort to take me with him and get me to the animal shelter. Four days later, a lady (my mom) and three kids came in to the shelter and I picked them to leave with and make a forever home. They even took care of me when I had puppies 2 months later and found homes for four of them and still have 2 of them (they are almost 13 years old now!).
I have had a big backyard to guard. I don't know if my two kids and my step-son are up to the task, but at least I kept the wild animals out for almost 14 years! I've had so many fun trips going camping and going to the mts. of North Carolina. It was really fun when the kids and my mom would sneak me into the backseat of the suburban without my dad knowing. About half way to our destination they would get me to sit up. Dad would just laugh.
I have an eletrically heated dog house that my dad made for me. That's special! I could go on and on. But to the point....I have had a great life and wish a life like mine for all puppies. Lily Pad, take care of Mom and Dady. With love, Camper Dog (Mamadog)

Yes, it's that time of year when my dad begins to make the yard look like a carnival. Lights, lights everywhere. Yea, I know it looks beautiful, but it increases my work load. Wild animals see the lights and head this way. I've already run 2 polar bears and a flock of arctic terns from the premises. Any evening now I am expecting Rudolph and his crew to buzz the area. (They try to invade the territory every year). Santa needs to keep his eye on them better, they run amuk. Well, Mamadog signing off to return to duty.

Well, Fall is here. The leaves are falling, my fur is growing, and there is a snap in the air. I love Fall. When the leaves begin to thin, intruders are more easily seen. I must still patrol the perimeter, but now can use more than my ears and sniffer. My eyes are now roaming the terrain for invaders. What have I spotted? Two armadillos and a white-tail deer. Did they stay around? Not with MamaDog guarding the hacienda! You probably wonder about the larger threats. I had to go into paw to hoof combat with two rabid zebras and was forced to body slam an enraged hippo that wanted to enroach on my territory. You ask why I do this. It is to protect my offspring--Abe and Loxy, the 12 year old twins, and Butthead (Artemus), my stepson. It is work, work, work for the Mamadog, while the three youngsters frolic with wild abandon, never aware of the potential danger that I toil to keep from their world. A Mamadog's work is never done!
