Arrival Story: My last Catahoula had passed away and after grieving I thought I was ready for another dog. Well, I was thinking with my heart and not my head when I decided I wanted another Catahoula. I went up north where I saw one litter of puppies. They were great! The breeder had 5 kids so all of the puppies were very well socialized to kids, noises, other animals, etc. I had just about decided on one red leopard girl but I had one other puppy to see. I thanked the breeder and said I would be back.
I went to this "training facility" where the training lawn was littered with broken beer bottles and there was a bleeding boar in a pen (they were training their Catahoula's on him). All of the dog runs were ankle high with excrement. In the back of one of the runs was a skinny, ugly, 6 month old puppy. When I approached the run, he snarled at me and tried to back away. Then I was informed that he had already been kicked out of four homes and was flown in cargo three times.
Yes, ladies and gents, I had found my new dog! He was certainly a challenge (especially as I had just graduated from the SPCA Acadamy for Dog Trainers and was such a newbie trainer!) Thanks to many of my more experienced trainer friends (especially Mollie!), a training program and three years of Prozac - Trouble is the greatest dog ever! He has been off Prozac for over a year and is happy, healthy, and wonderful to be around. He is the best friend a girl could have!
