 Quick Bio:
 Likes: People!

Pet-Peeves: Getting rained on. The squirrel that got away!

Favorite Food: Anything she could swipe off the counters or stove.

Favorite Walk: Anywhere she could meet people.

Arrival Story: Niki came to us a year after I got Dalton. Although rescue dogs are usually impossible to trace, we were pretty sure that Dalton had come from a certain breeder. When she wanted to retire Niki from the breeding program, she called me and offered her to me -- pending Dalton's approval, of course!
Niki joined the family over the Memorial Day Weekend in 1992. I decided that a long weekend would be good, as I could be home to make sure they wouldn't fight with each other.
Well, I had to run some errands, so I put Niki in the crate, and left, figuring everything would be fine for a few hours.
When I arrived home, I was met at the door by two dogs! How Niki managed to squeeze herself out of that crate is beyond me. Since both dogs were in one piece, I figured everything would be okay.
Over the next few weeks, they worked out any differences they might have had. They were virtually inseparable until Niki's crossed the Rainbow Bridge in 2/99.

Bio: Niki disliked being wet and absolutely HATED getting rained on. If we had to walk in the rain, when the first raindrop hit her, her ears would go straight out to the sides. If she got really wet, then by the time we got back home, her ears would be pointed down and she looked more like a wet sheep than the beautiful Akita she was.
Nike refused to pee on cement and she refused to pee on wet grass. For awhile, this made me kind of nuts, because she would hold it and hold it and hold it, which wasn't all that good for her.
Finally, during one particularly we walk, I put Niki on the shortest leash I could find, dragged her into the middle of a large, wet lawn down the block and said, "Niki, there are NO dry lawns!" I then stood there until she peed. After that, if it was we out, I just warned her ahead of time that there were no dry lawns and she would head for the nearest lawn and go quickly in order to get back home.
