Arrival Story:
Heather was literally dropped off at our house - by a neighbor who was active in an animal orphange. She knew our Scottie, MacDuff, had passed away and Heather's person was trying to find a home for her. She arrived with a tug toy and supper dish and, of course, stayed for the rest of her life.

My Story

Stomach Ache

That’s the first time that I remember getting sick. It was after Mom took me to Newton Lake. She was home packing. She spent hours and hours in the basement. It so hot that summer and she drank gallons of water – as much as me. I like water and try to take several big, long drinks every day. When we went visiting, Mom always made sure that our hosts had an ice fresh bowl for me. They were amazed at how much water I could drink. I know what’s healthy.
Anyway, as I said, I got really sick while Mom was home packing. I must have looked pretty bad and I wasn’t eating – it takes a lot for me to stop eating . So she took me to the vet and he gave me these pills that made me really sick to my stomach. I cried, it hurt so much. I know the folks can’t stand to hear me cry, but I couldn’t help it. I can stand pretty much anything except a stomach ache. I’ve got a pretty strong stomach – I can really eat anything. I’m very adverturesome with food. I’ll try just about anything at least once. When I got older, my stomach got more delicate, but that’s another story. Anyway, the vet made me take an tablespoon of liquid antiacid with the antibiotic. That was pretty awful, too. I don’t know why people insist on using silverware.

Arthritis sets in

My arthritis had already kicked in and Gramps was carrying me up and down the stairs most of the time. I am not ashamed to tell you that he was already getting pretty shaky on his feet and we had some scary moments. Grammy and Mom tried to give him some other ideas for getting me around, but he didn’t listen. Finally, I had to try on my own again. Gramps got weaker and had a tough time on the stairs and that’s what made Grammy decide to look for a new house.

My Neighbor, Missy

I had a nice neighbor dog back then. Missy. A collie. Mom was friendly to her and that made me mad at first. I cried when Mom paid attention to Missy. For that matter, I howled whenever she paid attention to any other dog. I guess I needed to be sure I was number #1. It took a long time for me to believe Mom when she told me I was top dog. And eventually Missy and I got friendly. Then I didn’t mind so much when Mom petted Missy. Missy moved before we did. I missed her, but it was okay because the family was together. That’s the most important to me.
