Arrival Story: In January 1996, I was living in New Orleans and had just moved into a new apartment. In back of the house was a very old, dilapidated shed. In looking around the shed my first day in the house I noticed a tiny puppy standing on its hind legs peeking in at me through a hole in the back wall. January in New Orleans is not all that cold...but this little pup was outside in the neighbor's yard with no shelter, no food, no water. So I lifted her through the hole and carried her into my kitchen for a bowl of warm milk and a blanket. A short while later the neighbor came knocking at my door looking for the dog...someone had seen me carry her through the hole in the shed.
This pattern repeated for the next two days, I would feed the puppy, wind up handing her back and seeing her later in the yard discarded again by the owner. Apparently she was the last of a litter that had all been given away.
So on the fourth day...I took her in again...the owner took her back, etc, etc. I had been painting the back hallway and had the inner and outer doors open for ventilation. I took a break and sat down in my livingroom. A short while later I see the puppy come strutting into the room and plop down next to my chair and fall asleep exhausted. The owner had yet again dropped her in the backyard as soon as she was taken home....and somehow this tiny, six week old little thing had managed to climb through the hole in the shed by herself then climb up six stairs and walk through three rooms to find me. I knew right then that I was keeping her. The owner saw it the same way and sent her daughter over to tell me I could just keep the dog. So I did...and she's been mine for the last 8 1/2 years.

Bio: Part of being a Catahoula Leopard Dog must be the trait of having nine lives. Kelly has used at least 6. She's an indestructible beast. She has survived several severe illnesses...most recently a 3 hours surgery to fix a pyometra and to remove kidney stones. She's an amazingly resilient little dog.
