Leave a bone for Callie--On to Greener Pastures

Nicknames: Her original owner named her Keoli (little bear in Hawaiian). The rescue renamed her Callie. Ursula is so appropriate, but we will stick to Kali, Calli-kins.

 Quick Bio:
 Birthday: February 8th 1997
Likes: Anything she can get her mouth on! It's crazy how she can eat so much, if given the opportunity. People Food!! But not everything--toast and popcorn is ok, I now love carrots and peanut butter, cantelope, mangoes are out.

Pet-Peeves: Combing her lower belly. It must tickle something awful, because she'll fake nip at you.

Favorite Toy: Squeakies! Mom's favorite grooming tool is the Furminator. You won't believe all the undercoat it pulls out.

Favorite Food: Toast, cheese, cat food--wet or dry. God, I'm such a pig with the cat food!

Favorite Walk: Everywhere! She really enjoys walking.

Best Tricks: No formal tricks, but she's smart as whip. She's already figured out how to open the gate to the upstairs and how to get on top of the kitchen table. :>0

Arrival Story: Callie passed away on 29 May 08. Her bloodwork and urinalysis showed elevated white blood cells and other tell-tale things. The vet said she had a tumor in her spleen area, which was probably malignant and spread to her lungs (she had developed a cough, also). The tumor may or may not have been responsible for the liver failure. I decided against surgery or chemo, as she was too advanced.
She led a pampered life the last four days...cheese, ground beef, sleeping with Mommy in her bed. All the things that weren't allowed before. I've never had to put an animal to sleep before and it was the hardest thing I've ever had to do. I miss my baby!
Callie's been with us just over a year now, and she's doing great! She loves to play with her new doggie friends and is a good guard dog. Her previous owners had her for eight years and then moved into a new home. She was given to Hillcrest Animal Rescue in Farmersville, TX in March 06. We found her on Petfinders.com.

Bio: Callie is an AKC registered, tailless Schipperke born in California and raised in Texas. She looks like a bear cub with a wolf face. So far, she's getting along great with the boys. Callie's finally lost the weight. She's down to a slim, trim, sexy, and healthy 14 pounds now!

Forums Motto: Don't hate me because I'm beautiful.
